thank you! I hope this is all that is wrong with mine. As I was rounding a corner, my stick got all loosey goosey, but kinda seemed stuck in 2nd gear. You make this look easy, Big stress relief!
Thank you so much for posting this video! I’m woman, so they would screw me up greatly in a shop, but because of your video I was able to fix it myself. There was no problem at all – I actually used the “profi style” (the florist wire) to be able to run to the store for the bushing 🙂 Thanks again
Ok so i have a 96 Saturn Sc2 Coupe 5 Speed Trans i was the store and i was in 1st gear i went to shift into 2nd but i did it really fast like to take off and nothing happened it felt like having a poon in jelly you could move the shifter anywhere without hitting any gear its like free roaming and only my 3rd gear works i havent brought the part or tried looking at it yet as this has just happened today any suggestions or what may be wrong with it or how i could find out a possible problem..Thnks
i need to know how to replace the cable on mine. looked online and cant find anything some fucking tweeker tried to fix the cable and now the actual cable under the first bracket is all frayed out and needing a new part. i hvae no idea what its called or if i can actually even buy it
AWD MOTORSPORTS is the name of the business. If you go to there website and just search for ” saturn ” it pops right up. I just found they are selling it on Amazon as well.
I tried this one, but had issues with the metal bushing popping out. I then bought a Delrin bushing from AWD Motorsports. It was so much easier. It’s 1 piece instead of 2 like the dorman help part. The one AWD sells popped right it in the cable. I then used some pliers to squeeze the cable over the ball and I was done in minutes. I did some research on delrin and whats nice about it is it’s self lubricating. It should help the smoothness of shifts when the bushing is moving around on the ball.
The dumbasses at Oriley’s auto parts told me I needed the whole cable so I paid 200$. Then I found this video and took it back with a vengeance! Very helpfully buddy! Thank you..
That I dont..But Its made by dorman …its a ” Help” product,. your best bet is to go to a mom and pop auto shop and tell them your looking for the ” help products” by dorman.. tell them what you need.. saturn tried selling me the whole shift cable
Thanks for this video, same repair you had and have to.repair the right way thanks to you… Where you bought the piece and happen to have the part number?
Thank you 🙂
Try Doorman.. thats where I got mine.. dorman is a maker of all unusual parts like that.. also another best bet is to go to a ” mom and pop” auto parts store in your area and tell them what your doing and what you need…take a picture with ur phone or cam and show them.. I say a small mom and pop auto parts store because they are usually full of people who are very good at parts, and not like franchise auto parts stores that hire people who dont know anything as parts people..good luck
I’m repairing my friend’s car and it has a bad bushing, but it’s the one on the other end of the cable as you said…it’s the lower cable end (the shift selection cable…the upper cable is reverse selection) under the hood. My problem is, I cannot find this bushing ANYWHERE.
Did you have any success in finding the bushing? I fabricated one but it’s a temporary repair.
If you were able to find the under-hood bushing and have a source or a part number, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
So my linkage problem is on the other side of the cable, but I’m pretty sure its the same process. Thanks for saving me time, money, and from the little pin pricks from fighting the paper clip work of a “real mechanic”. ..thanks man. – Marc
i followed step by step but my bushing kit keeps falling off.. any advice?
no problem good luck

Thank you, this made figuring out what went wrong much easier.
I would start with taking the center console out and seeing what happened with the shifter and linkage
