I found this very informative however as you said most men do not follow directions, so I’m going to have to take to a shop that weigh a small problem doesn’t become an even larger problem. How long does it take to put in the water pump so I’m not bent over when I go to the shop. I want to attempt this on my own but I know how this will go as again a small problem we’ll be coming even bigger problem in the long run. If you can tell me how long it takes to install the pump.

My brother asked me to locate a diagram for the water pump…but I find that your step by step video/tutorial much more informative than a diagram…I am glad that I found this wealth of information. Much appreciated!!!

I couldn’t get to the thing to remove the coolant from the radiator so I just put a pan under the water pump and when I removed it, it drained out.

Great video– for a girl who’s never done any car work other than topping off fluid, I was able to follow your video and replace my water pump in the parking lot of auto zone haha – the hardest part was trying to get the bolts to loosen in the beginning- the rest was easy. Loved that copper stuff too btw. Total cost to fix my coolant leak/replace the water pump was $43.25 (lifetime warranty wp and cooper stuff) vs the $375 the shop wanted -saved $331.75! THX!

Thanks for the video…I know what I’m doing tomorrow morning.

great video just replaced mine this weekend after watching and it was a breeze. Thank you!

Mike LeVan says:

Job done. You probably saved me $100.

Mike LeVan says:

Great video, thanks. I had been told you needed to lower the engine on the passenger side to do this and now I can see that will not be necessary. I will say, your car was much cleaner than mine, I had to get out the pressure washer and remove all the dirt and oil in there and let it dry so I could verify that it is in fact the water pump leaking.

I’ve got the pleasure of doing my waterpump this weekend. Thanks for the video!

vburningman says:

Great video, thank you so much for making it. I replaced my water pump on a 2000 Saturn SC1 yesterday, but I DID also replace the belt! A couple of the hots were dark and hard to make out but once you get in there it is easy to figure it out. You simplified my life and saved me time. Thank you!

Rob Begay says:

thanks for the information I don’t need to change my water pump at the moment but this is good to know ahead of time

timothyb07777 says:

Same here I almost was going to attempt removal from top side. Theres just not enough room, not to mention the motor mount.

timothyb07777 says:

Your video was fucking awesome. Time and money saver. God bless you and people like you who take the time out of there day to record and upload these video for shade tree mechanics like myself.

Thank you for making this video. It made the job very easy. Did you put the mouse back? lol!

Keith Mainwal says:

Great, well done. Thanks

s0medudeonline says:

Also, great video! Extremely helpful. I would normally try something like this on my own but this time something possessed me to check youtube. And you saved me A LOT of trouble simply by showing that I need to remove the tire and the splash guard.

s0medudeonline says:

I don’t know if I’ll get a response in time but I’m doing this tomorrow and on my new water pump where the gasket goes…..the area is raised. In the video the area looks conveniently depressed so the gasket actually pops into place. Will this be an issue, is there any chance I got the wrong one?

jordan conover says:

Would this be the same for a 99 saturn sl2?

Elaine Kain says:

Amazing… my son did this with my help after watching this video! I wasn’t sure the water pump was bad since coolant was also on driver’s side, but figured since I had it – and the belt was squeaking on cold starts – I may as well change it. Belt’s not squeaking & nothing’s leaking. Took off battery cable to clear service light. Took us longer since I didn’t know what we were doing, but we followed this and not bad at all!! Thank you!

Elaine Kain says:

Same here, kind of, or I’m just too cheap to pay $200 to the shop. I’ve got other things to spend it on – like getting the A/C working since I about baked myself last summer driving 5-6 hrs (work) on hot days. Sigh, and I did pay the shop $200 to work on the A/C and they couldn’t get it working then… May as well tackle the water pump on my 1996 Saturn myself!

Tyler Crane says:

What an entertaining video. You are the bomb. I will be looking for you in the future if I need any more education. Thank you so much. A single mom who is broke and must do her own work. Julie P.S. Did you replace the mouse?

OnlyJesusSaves says:

I had to re-tap the top thread where the water pump mounts because I got stuck backing out the old bolt. DON’T PANIC, re-tapping was easy and only cost me the $30 tap and die kit which I now have in my tools. Medium Strength Loc-Tite is also then a necessity.
I also found I really scraped up the back of my right hand behind the pinky; It seems those edges up there at the top are SHARP.
Does ANYONE know why there is a 9/16 bolt on an ALL METRIC car??? 🙂

OnlyJesusSaves says:

Well there is one VERY important point I’d like to make:
After having to put the new pump on three times I’ve learned the PermaTec Water Pump gasket sealant is absolutely required to prevent leaks. Why? Because the water pumps you get at Advance Auto Parts are stamped metal and deformed; the little gasket that comes with it breaks too easily and does not have enough surface area or bulk to overcome the warps in the cheap metal.
And also the TOP MOST bolt is VERY hard to reach, go slow.

OnlyJesusSaves says:

Hey, I’ve got a 200 Saturn SL2 that I have to put gas in 50 cents at a time. Cannot just fill, stops all the time filling. Any ideas?
