hello, i have a 1998 Saturn s series sedan, i have a few requests… could you show mehow to remove the hood, radio i want to put in a different dock, how to change the brake pads. thanks
This video helped me a lot. Thanks, Rich. I grabbed a replacement box/tray from the local pick-n-pull as the one in my 2001 SC-1 appears to have been broken during the last owner’s battery change. Given how challenging it was to remove the tray in one piece, I now understand the reason. The hardware holding the tray in place is prone to corrosion and it’s very easy to break the plastic during removal. I strongly advise penetrating lube before removal and anti-seize on re-installation.
Yeah, when I needed to remove my battery tray, I couldn’t figure out the underneath/wheel well bolt. Definitely frustrating, but I finally solved the puzzle.
Rich will know. But I would just buy one of these at the dealer and buy an extra one for when that one goes. They are very inexpensive. I buy mine in packs of ten.
I have a 96 SL2, did Saturn rearrange the battery position in later years? It looks like the battery terminals are at the opposite side of the battery box in the video. What is that big white square object between the battery box and the brake reservoir?
I don’t, but when i worked at a Valvoline quick oil change they had a bin with all the diff kinds of drain plugs and gaskets. I bet if you stop by and ask they will give one or a few to you for free.
Hello fellow Saturn owners, I have a 96 SL2 and I just changed my oil and now I have an oil drip at the drain plug. I bought an M12 nylon drain plug washer from O’Reilly auto parts and installed it on the drain plug but still have a small leak. Anyone know the correct oil drain plug washer to use?

Sounds like you live in the salt belt.

On the 00-02 they did flip the battery terminals to the front so they could mount the computer (silver box) to the back of the box.
I have used Dorman # 65327 which is M12
Yup the old brain is a little off.
What a pain in the ass just to remove a battery tray. The 2nd gen is much easier. Great instructional video as always. Keep em coming.
Thank you as always for your time making these great videos! I am always looking forward to your next one 🙂

I have to replace my battery box, and this video came just at the right time before i head to the wreckers sometime in the next couple weeks. Thanks
I own a 2002 s series. And unless they changed something from a 01 model.. No throttle body on transmission
I’m curious , throttle body on the automatic trans?
I help as best as i can.
Very nice :-), the bolt through the wheel side would have made me scratch my head a bit.
Very kind of you to spend time helping your viewers :o))
