Dan Reese says:

Saturn Ion have a a problem with all ignition switches , Dealers should replace for free ! My key sticks when I turn it off an have to press the release button under the steering wheel to get key out !

John Zima says:

Cool video…thanks, I like to know if that could fix the chime that stays on when the door is opened, (driver door)? Maybe you have idea, thanks….John…2007 Saturn Ion.

Chris Trammell says:

No I apologize it actually wasn’t even the video I was trying to see. I was trying to find one on the ignition cylinder itself.

Plutoisaplanet1 says:

Sorry sometimes I kinda say comments that are a tad rude 😛 That was 4 months ago so….

But yeah if I knew very little about cars and I was following this step by step, where’s my fault in that?

In my case someone else was working with me and he knew to disconnect the battery but I was surprised the video didn’t say it. You can’t expect everyone to know to disconnect the battery or expect everyone to write a todo list from scratch first.

Chris Trammell says:

if you have an airbag of course you disconnect the battery…come on now.

alphatraz1 says:

Yes. I have not had any issues since I made this repair.

Curtis St-onge says:

Hi Im having the same problem with my 2005 Pontiac Pursuit. Did swapping out the ignition switch fix your cold start issues?

Mike Hollingworth says:

Thanks very much, i just used your video and it all went well

Jerome Byrne says:

i went through this, paid dealer to replace guess what it’s the friggen side mount battery terminals! had terrible trouble with GM side mount battery terminals and it didn’t occur to me, but finally figured it out, ion has a very stiff ride in the back, and side mounts come loose sooner or later, not if but when, so i bungi chord around battery pulling terminal mounts tight in connection and VIOLA!!!, no more starting problems. Try it!!! be careful not to short positive negative

Mitchell Putt says:

Dont worry…I didnt disconnect the battery either…worked great for me.

Mitchell Putt says:

You saved me $200! If I ever meet you in person, Im buying you a beer! Thanks a TON!!

kailas417 says:

I followed all these steps and it worked for me. Thank You so much !

Plutoisaplanet1 says:

Sad. You didn’t say to disconnect the battery until part 3, when you’re putting everything back together.

thecurt1971 says:

Hey this worked great. Thanks for the help. Just remember to have the key set to ACC before u remover switch, or else u damage the switch.

vedobleu says:

I just followed all these steps and it did not work for me, now the car wont start at all. Also when I turn the key the passlock light isn’t flashing at all anymore. Does anybody know what I might have done wrong or what I can do?

kreutzerp says:

Atmazee is right in his procedure that he lists. The procedure in the video DID NOT WORK for me!
I have just changed my ignition switch as well and had to use a different procedure. A good one can be found at MoonTaj.
It is important to turn key to OFF after passlick goes out! Wait 10-20 seconds!

Atmaz says:

The dealership wanted 104$ just to LOOK at this problem, let alone fix it. I was able to fix it myself with a 55$ ignition switch from auto zone and the tools shown in this video.

Atmaz says:

I am the proud(?) owner of a 2003 Saturn Ion and just replaced my ignition switch. My vehicle had 60.9k miles on it before it just wouldn’t start anymore. This video was a great guide. The pass-lock relearn procedure was the hardest part for me. I tried three times before I found the correct method that worked. – Turn the key to start, wait for pass-lock light. Release key, (don’t move it to ACC) wait for 10 minutes. Pass lock light goes out, turn key to OFF!, wait 10 seconds, then repeat.

Mark Virgo says:

I have a question my 2003 ion gets stuck when i turn it off and my miles and raido stay on would i have to replace this and what and how much is the part?

LuckyOreo105 says:

Great Video. Very Detailed. I replaced my switch three days ago on my 2004 Ion and ZERO starting problems since. This was easy! Also see: “2003 Saturn Ion that won’t start” Switch was only $33 at KOI Auto Parts but they had to order. No one had in stock. Tips – start the programming before re-installing plastic panels. You phone has a timer.
