How long can last a timing belt and how long can last the water pump?

—– The Dealer just replace my timing belt, but not the water pump and not even the idle, or tensioner. The Water pump is guaranty for 100.000 miles by Hyundai.

The old timing was brand new, just dust and the car had only 50,300 miles, but more than 48 month since production date, so I didn’t want any risk.

I knew the job before I watched the video but kept watching because I liked the way you talk, my wife laughed at me at first but kept watching with me and said the same. Good editing, not too much extra garbage. 8 minute video for a water pump job is right on the money. Negative leverage works best for those pulley bolts. Wrench on the bolt downward when it’s at about 1 o’clock and it goes every time.

Another thing, If you have pets nearby, do not leave the pan of used anti-freeze for a second. If they drink it, they will die a very painful death. Anti-freeze is very poisonous..Put the used anti-freeze in a jug for disposal as soon as possible. Also it helps to have a helper slip the belt on the pulley while you are under the car releasing the tensioner, I had my wife slip the belt over the power steering pump while I was under the car. She got mad because she got some grease on her arm, lol.

Thanks, I finished replacing the pump and belt on my 96 Sl2 today. Everything went fine. I went to Sears for a 6 point 10mm box wrench, I did have a 12 point set but I did not want to risk rounding off those pulley bolts. I used another box wrench in between the pulley bolts to hold the pulley in place while loosening the bolts. It wasn’t easy but it worked. Once the pulley is off the rest is easy. I used Mega Black gasket maker to seal the O-ring on on the pump mating surface. All is good..

Running water in the system for one day is OK. You shouldnt have any overheating issues as long as you get the system topped off. After you replace the water pump, refill the system with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze & water. Good luck friend and have a great day!

I drained my anti-freeze from my Saturn Sl2 and I refilled it with tap water. I plan on driving it to work for one day (30 miles each way) and drain it again when I get home to flush out all the dirt. Do you think I will have any cooling or boiling over issues for one day with tap water? After that I am going to change the water pump this weekend using your video as a reference.

minthillbilly says:

Yes, It was a new waterpump. I cant remember the brand of it. My customer brought the part when he droped it off for repair. I do reconmend always using a new pump instead of a reman. Have a great day friend!

Buick Mackane says:

Is that a new water pump or a rebuilt unit? What brand?
