Yeah I just bought a sega dreamcast that has a working battery a couple
months ago and it just now went dead. I think my dreamcast that I got was
barely used at all. Cause it asked me to set the time and date once I first
hooked it up and later it didn’t so I cam guessing it is brand new.

I believe the battery should last about 1-2years. The factory installed
ones seem to last longer than ones you replace yourself. This is why owning
a backup cart is a good idea. I think data will be lost when you switch
batteries.
