BRYAN HATCH says:

Excellent video!!! If you are not an intermediate mechanic, do NOT attempt
this! It took me 9 hours and I build engines from the ground up! This is
not hard, but interference removal is compact and tricky. I wouldn’t pay
anyone to do it, but you couldn’t pay me enough to do yours. Use your
engines starter to remove the crank pulley bolt. Takes 10 seconds.

BRYAN HATCH says:

This guy does make it look much easier than it is

mr777davidben says:

any tips on how to remove a crank bolt, or how to set the marks on the
pulleys…

timdota says:

Thanks for the video. I saw another video before yours, but you have more
technique. 🙂 I still wish I wasn’t as intimedated with Auto work. I end up
taking mine to the shop; but I was looking at your video to see if what I
am being charged seemed reasonable.

elkiking09 says:

Hey there whath happen if car does not starts on

gironic says:

I knew I heard a Utah accent… then the license plate shot.

treeapron says:

Very nice video,

Gene Segal says:

Did you use that BIG ASS HAMMER (BAH) to remove the “idiot hoods”? =)

briansmobile1 says:

You’re computer will reset on it’s own. It will run rough for the first 5-6
minutes and then get happy. On modern cars you don’t have to re jet them
for altitude, timing, or temperature. The computer does it for you.
However, it takes the computer a bit of time for this to happen on it’s
own. Sometimes as many as ten to fifteen miles. OR if you’re a dealership
with a factory Honda Laptop you can just program it.

marcelo choque says:

question my top cam pulley its has two numbers 1 which one is the one in
top thanks

briansmobile1 says:

If the tensioner is bad I replace them. Otherwise and especially on the
first belt change I re use them successfully.

Milledgevillain731 says:

Ok thanx man! Though Im dreading the helllll outta it, im going to replace
the belt set myself. After I put it back 2gether is it then safe to drive
to a shop to adjust the valves? Maybe 20-30mi. away?

briansmobile1 says:

@castillosc3 I think it’s a 2002

briansmobile1 says:

@flickerman68 No, but it’s very prudent to do so. It combines labor and
ensures you don’t have to repeat the process unnecessarily or lose a belt
due to a pump seizing up.

DDee26 says:

Problem is I have a torx bit set however my handle bar with the torx
attachment is too big to get into that tight spot. would you mind providing
some details on what type of tool i’ll need to get in there or where I can
find one online? Thanks BM1

kingofbass63 says:

IT IS’NT THAT FUCKING EASY ON MY H22!!!

briansmobile1 says:

2006- Likely.

Wirewheels says:

@briansmobile1 – I just finished the t-belt and w-pump and could not have
done it without your video! You saved me countless hours of “how does that
come apart?” noodling. I completed the job in about 8 hours, which I didn’t
think was too bad. My only suggestion for addition to this video is: –
Describe taking the big plastic splash shield off the bottom – Describe
taking the h-balancer off. I needed to heat this up to get it off with the
impact wrench! Thanks again! Wirewheels

briansmobile1 says:

Floor jack and stands. A metric socket set. An impact gun and 19mm impact
socket (for the harmonic balancer bolt OR a breaker bar and use the starter
before lifting the vehicle) Coolant drain pan, Bench Vise to SLOWLY
compress tensioner, pry bar 16″-18″, wood block. Screw driver set, Office
supply clips for the belt, .086″ drill bit or tensioner pin, Blue silicone
sealant or Permatex Right Stuff, and some good music.

briansmobile1 says:

@elchato66 you’re welcome! Cheers!

faythailyn07 says:

Thanks brian.. One more thing, does the coolant need to be diluted
properly? What will happen if concentrated coolant used? (not diluted).

briansmobile1 says:

@hp11208 The power steering pump is only slightly different. The timing and
pump procedure is the same.

hp11208 says:

is this the same for a 2000

briansmobile1 says:

Some are adjustable and some aren’t. If they are the 10mm nut and flat
screw type then do adjust them.

Bob G says:

BTW: I’m getting ready to do this same job on a Saturn Vue. They run the
Honda 3.5L engine.

briansmobile1 says:

Poor performance.

lifehousestock says:

Hey bro, this video is awesome. I learned a lot from it. Who cares if you
don’t know the car vocabulary right? as long as you can get the job done.
Thumbs up

briansmobile1 says:

@creativeinventor I’m a fan of using the right tool for the job. I love the
hammer, but it has it’s place. I used a plasma torch and some DEF (Urea
based diesel exhaust fluid) You know to reduce oxides of nitrogen during
the burning process. (piss on that!)

greygolfer55 says:

Was able to remove crankshaft pulley with a 50mm hexagonal bolt tool and
breaker bar. Ordered the tool from Amazon for $25. Thank you for tutorial
and sense of humor.

Eric Suter says:

Just did the change on our 05 (3rd gen) this weekend. This video helped a
lot since not much has changed really. The direction you installed the belt
was different from the other write up’s I had read and your method worked
out much better. It brings the slack to the tensioners with everything
lined up perfectly. Once I pulled the pin on the tensioner, all was well.
Thanks for this great video and keep the others coming. You have a new fan.
Next is the timing belt on my VG30ET.

Bob G says:

Awesome video but I am a bit sea sick now. I think I’ll go walk the dog.

94Babyapple says:

hi brain im trying to change water pump and belt but having problem with
removing crank bolt have to tool to lock but cant loosen bolt please advice

flickerman68 says:

Do you have to change the belt and pump at same time?

briansmobile1 says:

It’s convenient to adjust the valves while the thing is torn down. You have
to adjust them when it’s cold. So if you take it to a shop they’ll have to
wait for it to cool to do it right- they aren’t always willing to do that.

briansmobile1 says:

It turns anti clockwise to loosen. I have a video describing this
phenomenon of the stuck crank bolt. I heat the washer with a torch.

briansmobile1 says:

@mr777davidben I have a video on that on my channel under “How to remove
that stubborn harmonic balancer bolt on Honda Acura”

Bill Zman says:

Thank for the video, I just have one question. What is the easiest way to
get engine to TDC. In the past I have been able to rotate the engine
manually, but not sure how difficult this would be. I am afraid to bump
engine over for fear of starting engine. I am not as used to working on
these newer cars.

DDee26 says:

did you have to remove the drive belts in front of the timing belt cover? I
notice you had a rubber belt on top of the motor? I’m asking because the
service manual says to remove it but i dont have the tool (looks like a
handler bar with a torx head attached to it). I’m a total newbie so excuse
my vocab.

108arsenio says:

excellent video but it keeps stopping haft way do have another video
related to this ? how didyou get the tensioner off?

briansmobile1 says:

@eurosport239 The FIRST thing you do on any timing belt is to line up TDC
BEFORE taking the belt off. If you didn’t, put the belt back on the way it
is and then rotate it to TDC. The front cam should have a #1 stamped on it.
Get that mark on the Timing cover mark. The cams are under extreme valve
spring pressure. Don’t expect them to rotate easily. Good luck!

briansmobile1 says:

@JimzAuto 1) Apply the belt such that the slack it to the tensioner side to
begin with. 2) With HB.

Todd Childers says:

What year model is this van. I have a 2007 3.5l vtec would the installation
be the same for it?

yessenia31290 says:

@briansmobile1 ok. that video tip worked good.

briansmobile1 says:

I don’t. I change it every other belt.

chetured says:

thank you !!!
