Thanks for the video! I’m gonna tackle this job in a few days and its very
helpful. I have a question though. What are the torque setting for the
caliper bolts and bracket bolts?

hnkfsh81 says:

Hi Rich. I tried this job recently, but I couldn’t break loose the caliber
bolts with my standard socket wrench and a regular hammer. Any tips that
could help me on try number 2?

Robert Simpson says:

How would you say would be the best way to remove the caliper brace without
an impact wrench?

sweetgrassiluv says:

+richpin06a hey rich when do you take off the cap on the brake reservoir

and do you replace it before you pump the brakes to make the pedal firm
again you forgot to add this to your video but non the less
very informational thanks!!!

Joel Rios says:

Hi very good video, I ready to start,, Hey Richpin06 I would like asking
something, my sw2 is making noise in the front wheel in driver side, it
makes noise while start driving but pads are ok, at least as I can see,
something inside the wheel do you have some idea what can be??

richpin06a says:

@metalldude69 You will not be needing a torx socket on your SL1 when you
change out your pads.

infinentj says:

By the way my car is a 2000 saturn sl2! thanks

James Vellenga says:

Thanks for this video. It was very helpful when I was doing the brakes on
our SL1. Of course no work happens on a vehicle without finding other
things. I discovered the boot on the drivers side tie-rod got damaged
somewhere along the line. So I will have more work to do in the future. Not
to mention now that the brakes are not grinding, I hear other things I
couldn’t before.

richpin06a says:

You will not be able to install your new pads.

mmadden123 says:

I just replaced pads & rotors on both of my saturns sl’s – just wanted to
thank you for all your efforts, you’re much appreciated!

richpin06a says:

You do not need to bleed the brakes when doing your brake job.

thec4ke says:

@larryt7001 Yes, you grease where ever the rear of the pad makes contact
with metal to prevent squealing. Greasing the front of the pads is
dangerous and useless.

richpin06a says:

Without hooking up a ABS scan tool to the car i would be only guessing on
what the problem would be..

Bicycle Crossroads says:

Great as always. Much better close-ups compared to the previous version.
Can’t stand the “cricket” chirping from 4 minutes to the end. Thanks again!

Lanelle Devlin says:

Once again Rich you make it look so easy. Your video’s are very well done
to show exactly what to do. I finished replacing the starter with your help
and am now going to do front brake pads in our Saturn SW2. I really
appreciate your work. Thanks again.

bmacAK47 says:

@richpin06a Thank you sir!

Buick Mackane says:

Rich, I’ve had nothing but problems with my 1996 Saturn Sl2 brakes since I
bought it new. The front rotors always start warping a couple or few months
after installing new rotors and also calipers. Can you tell us what is the
best brand and type of disc rotors and brake pads to use on the Saturn S
series? Metallic, Semi-Metallic or Ceramic? Cheap Autozone disc rotors or
$70.00 each name brand disc rotors? Do you ever use brake rotor shims?
Thanks

Will C says:

Haha… I’m having a hell of a time getting the drum off on the rear brake.
Any tips? Is there a plug you can take off to adjust the shoes in?

Miguel Tercero says:

thank u so much Rich…i like your pet…….lol

agretchen4u says:

TThank you so much for this video, I will save a ton $. Im a chick and Im
gonna do this today on my own!!!

richpin06a says:

@agretchen4u So cool that you can work on your own car do you have many
tools.

corvair1966monza says:

@richpin06a Thanks!

Jyoti Sidhu says:

Do u know that how much it might cost.

richpin06a says:

The piston boot protects the piston with a seal in the caliper body that
seals the piston holding in the fluid. The tear will shorten the life of the
caliper.

nullx86 says:

@richpin06a pinch rails are the two pieces of metal that are “pinched” for
lack of better term, right next to the doors? Soory, noob to car
terminology. Any other safe spots to do this?

AGStylZ says:

Wow…I wish I saw this a month ago = But good to know now! I’m feeling a
little bit of, maybe, drag after I got a brake job done [to pass
inspection], so I was considering taking it apart and giving it a good
inspection. Also, I have a bit of shaking under braking so I’m guessing my
rotor might need a little refreshing.
