Kickass dude, this just happened to me, now I know what to do!
Thanks bro that little bushing was missing on mine video helped a lot
Thanks man; this helped out a loot.
yeah i am going to buy one from napa but dont know what it looks like just
yet. the only place i can find one here in las vegas
Did you use a c-clamp to put it on?
In my SC2, which was made exactly like this. I used zip ties too. Drove it
for 4 years with zip ties. I have a Vue now, with 300,000 miles. It just
busted. Not as easy to fix, but the part was $37 and the labor was $78.
message me a link to this item, and i must say i tormented that bushing and
after a few thousand miles, and probably a few hundred thousand shifts, it
shows no sign of wear
I drove for 4 years with the zip ties. Sold the car a year ago. The girl is
still driving it, with no issue.
The problem I have with this is that you don’t actually show how you put
this bushing on. You just show it completed not the steps you took to get
it on.
my factory one blew out after 200k – it’ll last the rest of the cars life
NP. – wish you would have shown the actual installation however – THAT is
what i was looking for when i ran across your vid.
this actually just happened to me haha
Thanks for posting the video. It has helped me to figure out what is wrong
with my 1999 Saturn SC2. there appears to be some sort of plastic or rubber
guide for the cables with a small gap in the left cable. Mine does not have
half of that tubing on the right side and when you try to shift the higher
gears the cable will kink and not move forward. I need to find a
replacement or new way to guide the cable into the slot. can I get a better
picture of what those cables look like ??
Thumbs up.
As i said in another reply, that part got corrupted, i did film it, but it
never made it to here. its simple though if you bought the part that i did
the instructions are very clear
This video was SO EXTREMELY HELPFUL. Gave me a whole new perspective and a
fresh boost of confidence! Thank you very much!
how did you take the console off.
@MelBreeeezy zipties will work, but i wouldnt use them for too long… they
will eventually break so as a quick fix it is good but i would get the part
as soon as you can
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Very helpful!. The cable in
my ’98 SL (with 154,217 miles) just broke tonight. Now know how to handle
it. Thanks again!
Pretty good video. Mine just happened to bust on the way home from work in
rush hour traffic yesterday. I pulled the console real fast and shifted by
grabbing the cable with my hand, so I got home the last 10 miles ok. For
those of you looking for the NAPA part number it is 260-1411 It is a cable
shifter bushing. It is light weight and feels cheap but it does work for
now. The locking ring also doesn’t want to stay in so I used some gorilla
glue and let it sit over night. Hope this helps.
@weleydoh you dont need one, you push the plastic piece on, then put the
cable on, then install the metal ring, no tools needed and it is easy to
install
@jimlube67 the shot that i took of me putting it on got corrupted so it
never made it in. it is rather simple though, all you have to do is put the
black bushing on the ball, slip the ring over, then insert the metal ring
and the job is done, simple and easy, instructions are included with the
item however
Literally just happened to me yesterday afternoon.
we ended up drilling out that metal ball, then used a very strong screw, 2
nuts, a large washer and some other lil thing (i forgot the name of) to
prevent the nut from becoming loose. it works great!!
But the CNC one is a MF to get out when the cables take a shit.
Just (today) happened to me @ 143k… Had no idea this was such a common
problem. Easy fix though. Surprised that this was not a recall eligible
issue.
Love the frown after the dad comment!
Dude … Thanks so much for this video. This happened on my Vue today and I
guessed it was something like a cotter pin. Now I can tackle this problem
with direction. Thanks!
Thanks so much for sharing this! The same thing just happened to me tonight
on my 2000 Saturn. Now all I have to do is figure out how to get the center
console off!! lol!!
