British_Leyland(Alexscott100) says:

The anti theft system has been triggered

patricknedz says:

saturn ion is a good car I have one and my friend has one too, I used to
blame Saturn on this until I figured out the problem. Its GM’s ignition
switch, this has been a problem on Chevy Malibu and Cadillacs too. More
common on saturn though, but the simple solution is to replace the ignition
switch your self follow the step by step instructions on youtube and the
switch only cost $30 from an auto parts store

mdinc20 says:

My mom has that starting problem where she has to sit for 10 minutes. She’s
lost a few jobs because of the car and she brought it to the dealer to get
“fixed” 4 times. I wanna fill the car up with used motor oil, light it on
fire, and let it go over a cliff.

patricknedz says:

so inconvenient, this happen so many times, on the way to school, trying to
leave the kennywood parking lot, and just many numerous times. Just had
this car fixed, it had an oil leak and needed an alignment cost around $500
but this same problem still exists. Just want a way to fix it!

DanielElevator videographer Moore says:

this is one of the few times i know nothing about cars.

patricknedz says:

The white wire trick does work, but it can cause problems too,You must do
this with the engine running for it to work properly otherwise the car wont
start at all. Also if you cut the wire and the battery runs dead and you
replace the battery the car will not start until you reconnect the white
wire, I havnt cut the wire yet I am going to replace the switch instead. I
dont want the aftermath issues

BamBam41510 says:

its the dielectric grease on the electric switch that engages the passlock,
causing the car to think that it is being stolen.

DieselDucy says:

WOW only 38k and having issues??

misterbear1984 says:

Saturn, a company created for dumb ass consumers who didn’t do their
homework when making a huge financial decision. 😉

William Stonehocker says:

I guess you’re right. The other worst GM cars are the Cadillac Cimmaron
(Cadillac’s failed attempt at their first compact car), Cadillac Catera (a
rebadged Opel that was poorly built), Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky (not as
cool as the Corvette, and not as user-friendly), with the Pontiac Aztek (#1
worst and ugliest car of all time, ruined a good brand).

goat on a mountain says:

white wire under the steering wheel, you gotta remove the plastic shit and
cut the wire, its the faulty starter anti theft thing, mine did this too
but cutting the white wire seemed to have fixed it

hiround0007 says:

I have this ION and there’s no problem with seeing the freaking gauges
that’s just nonsense…good little freaking car… only when it won’t
start…LMBO fixed it by cutting the white wire ..but that’s not the
problem with the car in the vid….Good luck…

goat on a mountain says:

lol i never had this problem though the cylinder does lock up sometimes
lol. i didnt realize what a hassle it would be to cut it lol my apoligies

patricknedz says:

Saturn is no longer in existence, they were owned by GM. Not sure when
saturn went under but I would not buy anything by GM ever again.

patricknedz says:

This car has also had steering problems with the electric steering assist.
There was also something wrong with the alinement too. It probably would
have been a better idea to trade in this car than the minivan, it was in
better shape anyways. The ION only has 38K Miles on this

nld1960 says:

Your Passlock system failed because of faulty grease. You can disable it by
cutting the white wire underneath while the car is running. If your service
light stays on, put in a 4 dollar switch inline

brittani9378 says:

I have an 04 ion as well and it does the same exact thing! super
inconvenient if you are in a hurry!! actually it’s inconvenient regardless.
Its not the starter or anything like that. 4 mechanics have looked at it
and they can’t figure it out! if you figure it out please share!!

patricknedz says:

Saturn was a good car and people liked them, GM blew them off thats why
they are gone, just like Pontiac and Oldsmobile.

MICHAELA DIXON says:

3 bolts in the bottom of the steering wheel, remove them. pull the casing
off around the steering wheel. There is a set of wires in there with a
green plug piece. pull up on little tab and unplug. There are two white
wires. One has a black line and the other is just white. Cutting that white
wire, disables the security. Thats the little icon you are seeing on the
dash. I will paste you the video I followed. It works!

daveinfl26 says:

A previous owner might have tried the “White Wire” fix and got it wrong.
Unscrew the panels on the steering column and look at the wiring harness
that goes into the ignition switch. I suggest looking up a “White Wire Fix”
video and understand what you’re looking at, what the white wire does, and
what happens when someone cuts it. If your wiring harness has been tampered
with, reconnect the cut wires, start the car, then separate the wires
again. It should clear the security/service warning.

brently1973 says:

ya maybe each there own… I prefer just glancing down to see the gauges
though rather than turning my head right and looking down

Neil Pena says:

Ah, the flashing Security indicator. I had that problem once with my 2006
Saturn Ion. I remember reading somewhere that it means that car did not
detect the security chip in the key correctly and the immobilizer is
functioning. The car won’t accept any attempts to start for several minutes
after that, even with a correct key.

brently1973 says:

Omg why are the gages in the middle of the dash

Joe Valenza says:

It’s your ignition switch I just changed mine
