Yessir.

@l3lackout77 For this vehicle 180+ is the acceptable range. I never
bothered doing anything about it because 170 is good enough. It depends on
your car though. Check the manual (official, Haynes, or whatever else is
out there) for specifics. Or visit the forum dedicated to that car or
engine and find out.

chan cantgrip says:

Do you drive this car daily? Did you do this test on warm engine? it could
just be one of the valves not seating properly. If it did come down to worn
rings, drive it till she blows. Its a saturn not worth rebuild, just find a
new motor if it dies.

jessebickeldotcom says:

No, adding the teaspoon of oil and showing higher compression indicates the
piston rings are worn. Adding the oil sealed off where the piston rings
should be sealing. The oil that I put in the top of the cylinder burns away
and doesn’t help, it just helps narrow down the problem.

Drew DuBois says:

Do an MMO piston soak and test again.

Chase says:

Is that your fuel line with vice grips on it? I just did a compression test
on my 1997 Saturn SL and found all had 150 psi of compression but one,
cylinder 2 had 100 lbs. doing a wet test i found 220 on 1, 3, and 4. and
found 165 on #2. car runs pretty strong and just did a compression test
just to know. Do you know what the recommended results would be?

SteelToe Joe says:

Is 210 on all cylinders GOOD or BAD? I just had a motor shipped to me that
is a 3.1L V-6 and the compression test showed 210 on all cylinders…Thanks

jessebickeldotcom says:

Vice grips were holding the throttle (open, I think). Check the SaturnFans
forums and other comments here. Sounds like you need new rings.

sandiegocalifas619 says:

So uhh, After adding a cap full of oil the compresion was good then? So you
didnt have a worn piston rings?

inlinesicks says:

It doesn’t have a timing belt.

jessebickeldotcom says:

All plugs are out in this video. Every Saturn-specific guide I read said
7-10 times. I have not done anything about the 170 compression, not worth
messing with, I think 180 is “good” range, so I’m ok with 170. That was my
original question with the video, so I appreciate your response! Is there a
danger in turning it over too many times?

dianemarie909 says:

i have a 2000 saturn no compression my timing belt broke what happen

td1238 says:

Book says that service limit is 180. Rings are probably worn or stuck in
grooves, or have lost their temper. Saturn rings often lose their temper,
which causes excessive oil burning. Likely you can replace the rings
without replacing any other parts. Replaced my rings at 219,000 miles.
Crosshatch still present. No cylinder wear. Bearings, valves, and guides
all perfect. Replace valve guide seals, though. Good idea.

Chase says:

Your timing belt broke and you have no compression? intake or exhaust
valve(s) are probably still open. not sure if your car has a timing belt or
not.

WBarts says:

Cly 4 wall needs some cleaning up. Rings are doing the job but while the
piston moves up the rings are not sealing 100 percent. If it was a bad ring
or Rings it would be way lower and you lose psi just sitting. Includes
valves cracks seats etc. but its holding psi so you move on to honing cly
wall back squared top to bottom and a new set of rings.

@ratkocos hey i have a 2004 cr 125 2 stroke bike the compression is 120 is
that good?thanks

mrjost55 says:

@jessebickeldotcom Possibly just your battery dying. Most guides I’ve read
or watched say to crank 5-6 times with the gas pedal to the floor(so that
gas doesn’t come out of the injectors). I need to check my service manual
for the proper procedure.

jessebickeldotcom says:

Thank you helper.

seapeddler says:

Is that 210 psi.?

spiralisedcat says:

0:35 Man down MEDIC!!!!!!

Gary Trakhman says:

great job on the encode, do you think we could get a couple of slides for
the excel graphs of the results?

Xavier Vigil says:

This test shows that the ring on the 4th piston is bad. Good job on your
test. This shows its not a bad valve or gasket.

RandallFlaggNY says:

Just use duct tape.
