Saab Xenon fault

One of my Xenon headlights is dim and is making a high pitched ringing sound. I don’t know what the problem is and even my local dealer had no idea what was …

rhe problem its balast

apl175 says:

Just a shot out of the blue….headlamp leveling system motors. I think
auto leveling is standard for Xenons even in the USA. Either that or it’s
the ballast.

@mariospana1 8000k is very blue. 4200k is pure white, not mostly yellow.
6000k is also pretty blue, even 5000k is blue tinted, even after warm up. I
guess it could depend on if you are using very cheap bulbs, as there are so
many ‘HID’ kits out there. What brand bulbs are you using?

justduck1313 says:

You check the fuel pump and tire pressure?

blaisek61 says:

@mariospana1 6000k/8000k are just the color tint, more blue, which means
less light. 4000k-5000k gives you the whitest light and best clarity. Most
HID cars are ~4300k stock for this reason.

sound normal to me, my saab makes the same thing, but my xenonlight’s are
almost 5 years old now, did the dealership check if there was any errors
from the headlights? cus the system detects an error from the autoleveling
or the xenon just as fast as you turn around the key to on. and the whining
noise is just of the xenonlight converting the power to 23 000w.

Same thing happened on mine

jrodigan5 says:

Update. I replaced both bulbs and the strange coloration of the driver side
was just the type of bulb! LOL! Replaced them with the proper 4300k bulbs
and they are GREAT now.

Taniizard says:

the saabs are very fast to notice problems specially with the xenon and
auto leveling 🙂

jrodigan5 says:

The light for the “Xenon Fault” is not on, so, I don’t believe there is a
true error. I believe I’ll just have it replaced. My saab is a 2003 so they
could be pushing seven years old, time for a new one I suppose. Thanks for
the info though!

jrodigan5 says:

@mariospana1 I might go 6000k for my next set, but the bulbs I got are
really high quality (Pillips) and they were only $115 for the pair. They
have a nice color, pure white with a bluish tint.

Taniizard says:

I don’t think you need to worry about the whining unless its very high, you
can tell from the video that the front left light(to the right on the
video) is about to have an end, the front left seems to be a new xenon
lamp. to check the auto leveling just open the trunk and but some weight on
it and you will see the light auto leveling.

jrodigan5 says:

Do you have a 9-5? If so do your lights project high? Because mine, when
parked about 15 feet from the garage project only about a foot and a half
up the door. which, I think, is the auto leveling you’re talking about that
automatically lowers the beam if there is a problem with the lights.

jrodigan5 says:

I did that and they adjusted, but they don’t seem to project high enough on
low beams, and I think they are supposed to lower when theres a problem
with them. When I first start the car, they project very far, but when they
heat up, they lower quite a bit, to where they only project about 30-40
feet on the road. Like I said in the video, the dealership didn’t even know
what was wrong with them.
