This video shows how to replace the engine air filter in a Saab 9-5, model years 1998-2010 (non-diesel engines). The air filter is usually changed during service, but if you do this yourself you can save a lot of money. You should not neglect the air filter as it is an important component for engine performance.
This is a very easy DIY. Tools needed: 10mm socket and T25 Torx bit.

Hey Jona, I wanted to get this job done ages agoby looking in the owners manual but guess what? it refers to seek Saab authorised service, lol But thank you for another useful video! LIKE!
Where can I get the filter?
Long time since I saw one of your videos. Big thankyou. You just make things so easy – even for beginners like me. The filter was such an easy job to get out. I'm off to collect my nice new one (but with my ancient MX5).
Sven (the Saab) will wait in the driveway!
I've never changed the filter since my dad gave me the car in 2007!! I just never thought of it though I've done regular oil changes and changed spark plugs (also thanks to your videos) So I expect to feel the difference. I'll let you know. Thanks again.
How often would you recommend to change one? Every oil service? I've got my one for 10 000 km (7 months). Should I change it now?.
Just some advice from a 2006 9-5 Aero owner, the front spoiler arrangement is different, so technically one must remove it to easily access to final torx bolt, but, you can get a torx head into the gap at an angle and if you are careful, it is possible to remove. Also, and I don't know if this is only for my model Aero, but it is best to insert the new filter into the housing first, lodge it in place THEN offer up the bottom prior to putting the bolts back in.
My friend saw the video you uploaded with saab 9-5, the filter change. If I put filter k & n, will i have a problem? I see it is too low, I will have a problem with water and rubbish;
Vrrrrooooom! Thnk u!
Found it easier to align if you put the filter in before the bottom plate- but thanks for all the help!!!
Many thanks
Thanks i just got a Saab and you've helped me fix a lot of things on it and i've never worked on cars before. The cabin filter was a pain though…
Is this the same type of air filter commonly found under the hood of other cars? Or does this generation 9-5 have two air filters?
vad tycker du om att borra några hål i överdelen av boxen? man får skönare ljud men tror du man kan få några negativa aspekter av det hela? älskar dina videos btw 😀
Great videos. As a result I changed the filter on my 2006 2.3t this week and glad I did. The old one was filthy! Dead insects in the housing too…It may be placebo effect but the car's running better too.
I just picked up a 2004 9-5 Arc Wagon a few days ago with 201k miles on it. I have watched about 5 of your videos so far and have learned so much about my new car. Thank you for your awesome work!
so easy job,thanks
i have a 2001 9-3 that i just bought it drives great but i think it is lacking on power. the boost gauge moves but only stays in the white (is this normal?) i also have a oil leak in the rear of the engine but coming from some where around the throttle body but no oil in the throttle body or the intake tube.
i changes the vacuum hose. i check the bcp it wasnt at 7ohms so i will be ordering one from ebay. i also used a scoop on in the inlet tube of the turbo down to the turbine and saw no oil in it and the fins look good
any ideas on the lag or the oil leak
Hello Jonathan and thank you for your excellent write-ups. I tried to change the air filter on my 2006 9-5 2.3T, however the filter housing is extremely close to the fender bodywork….Even taking out the bolt that clips the corner to the body I couldn't get enough clearance to drop the filter housing. I can't imagine why there is so little clearance. Any ideas?
As usual, thanks for the tips. Already changed my filter, did the pcv update e.t.c. I was wondering if you were planning on doing a video of an oil sump drop/clean ? Even though i've already done it I think that a PCV #6 Update video would be helpful for people who have not done this yet. Thanks again.
spoileralert!!
The cabin air filter will be done sometime soon.
Slangklämman till snorkeln ser inget vidare ut. xD
Could you make one for the interior air filter? I know you are supposed to remove the glovebox to do it, but i wish there was a good video guide.
Really pleased with your channel. Excellent reviews.
keep up the good work and try to elaborate on many more issues if possible.
Both on the pre facelift as well as the facelift 9-5.
I will be waiting for your next update.
