The Saab 9-3 fuel filter replacement is a simple job, easily accomplished by the DIYer at home.
All petrol engines with an EXTERNAL filter, use the same unit in the same position
(👇see below 👇 for in-tank vs external clarification).
The specified change interval is 36,000 miles (58,000km)
This one has done 43,000 miles – I’ve cut it open to see what it’s like inside:

I’ve got so used to using grips for this job, I’ve never bought a set of fuel hose release pliers. However, this type of connector is used on so much more than just fuel filters on modern cars that I think I shall invest soon (I really ought to practice what I preach, lol). If you’re just starting out, I’d defo recommend investing in a pair of these.

This large square garden tray is so useful for catching bits, dirt, spilled liquids or for keeping tools in one place:

If like me you have a tarmac drive, then a tray of some sort is essential. Solvents and oils can do considerable damage to tarmac.

Wonder if you’ve ever looked at it like this… Almost 1000 views…. If an average of 50% of those who viewed went on to change their own fuel filter instead of paying a mechanic an average of £50, a fair guess would be £25,000 saved?

Jeffrey Armenta says:

Love to buy you a coffee !
You are helping me save money!
Where do I send your Starbucks card ?

Damien says:

How about the fuel pressure? Do you have to take the pressure off and how? Or just change the filter without taking of the fuel pressure?

Hi, nice explanation. I’m thinking to do this. Sorry for the ignorance but this can be done with petrol on the deposit? How do you avoid all the petrol going out when you disconnect the pipe from the filter. Thanks

Hello!
Nice video. Just one question. When you unplugg the Fuel filter are all the fuel coming out from the tank and empty the tank? Or is there Some sort of blocking thing thats stop all the fuel from coming out?

Lord Diablo says:

I am wondering if US version of 9-3 has the same design ……
