Please remember to disconnect the battery before you start, ground yourself, and keep a fire extinguisher close by.

Great idea, believe it or not I had the plastic hose crack at the fuel pump and left my wife stranded at a saab dealership years ago. The dealership told her it would be 4 days delivery for a new fuel replacement line. I called a saab used car dealership and talked to one of the mechanics and he told me to come to their garage and would show me the repair. It was exactly what you did and I did it to the 2001 Saab 9-5, forgot about and drove the car for over 3 yrs till the engine let go. Now my 2007 Saab 9-5 fuel gauge is gone, so might as well change the pump too. So opposed to dropping the fuel tank and spending all day doing the job and getting dirty, I'm going to do it your way and save the time, I'm not planning on selling the car and the hose worked great on the last car, so…..

Please viewers–do not follow this method of dealing with the fuel lines. As others have noted, it is entirely wrong and unsafe. Car owner is exposing himself to tremendous legal liability if an accident were to result–harming passengers or others once the car was sold.

As a former Saab Tech I must tell you this is totally wrong. The tank is supposed to be removed from the bottom allowing access to the top. Easily remove the pump with the tool shown and replace the pump and lines as an assembly. You are not supposed to cut the body of the car or the lines.
The new pump comes with new lines that clip on. This is considered unsafe because these are very high pressure and those clamps and hoses are not designed for it. If a line ruptures it can easily catch fire or you break down somewhere unsafe or inconvenient. I know no one or most don't have a lift at home but this really is not safe. Pay someone to do it right if you must. Stay safe its not worth it.
