Defa Cabin Heater Install DIY (2009 Saab 9-5) – Trionic Seven

Defa Cabin Heater Install DIY (2009 Saab 9-5) – Trionic Seven

A warm car is a comfortable way to start any winter day. No need to scrape ice and snow, and the engine does not need to perform a cold start. In this video I install a Defa Termini II 1700W cabin heater into my 2009 Saab 9-5 2.3t Biopower Griffin. This car has the 600W engine block heater from factory which means there is a 230V electric outlet in the passenger footwell.

I connect the car to the timered electric outlet in the parking lot, and two hours before I leave, power is turned on and the car heats up.

Hi Jonathan! Another very useful video – thank-you. I see Meko**men have this heater on sale for 699:- at the moment. Other points regarding winter operations are to keep a spray bottle of windscreen deicer in the car 'just in case' the electrical connection fails. Scraping the glass must be a final resort, and even then, using a plastic scraper. There's a special place in hell for those who use a metal blade to scrape windows 😉 . Here in the countryside south of Stenungsund on the west coast we've had four mornings of air frost in a row ( minus 4C ), and don't forget there's a big difference between air frost, that causes the windows to ice up) and ground frost (calling for greater caution and winter wheels as you mentioned). The boards will as usual soon be full of experts offering their wisdom on this subject. // Paul

I dont agree to Sweden is very cold in winter. It's very seldom below 0 C in my part of Sweden.

I sometimes forget to unplug the Saab, so it's warming it for like 12 hours, and well… It gets quite hot in there 😀

Granen says:

I did install exactly one of these Defa heaters in my Saab 9-5 as well about a month ago, in the same place that you installed it in Anna's car. And yes, the panel is now about to fall down 🙁 So I'll have to re-do the install according to your instructions now :p
