Its real name is test pipe. It is supposed to “test” if a catalytic converter is clogged or not. It was invented for emissions testing. However, car enthusiasts use them for other purposes: power and sound. So Test Pipe is the correct term, Bypass pipes or decat pipe is slang for test pipe.

Speedwelltuning says:

Why the hell do you call it a test pipe??! It’s a pipe deleting the cat so is called a decat pipe, fucking stupid Americans!

innovatorsource says:

Thanks. Easy to understand.

ProjectM97 says:

Cat-back exhaust sound is in one of my other videos. It sounds loud in tunnels and screams like a GT3 or Ferrari. I love it.

ProjectM97 says:

Yeah. I love it. It sounds stock at normal or constant speed driving. It sounds amazing when I step on the gas to accelerate. No vibrations or drone. I also added a cat-back exhaust a couple of weeks after the test pipes.

ProjectM97 says:

No. Because they are the secondary cats. They will cause the light to come on only in 1996-1999 Boxster’s. The 2000+ Boxsters were designed differently with 4 cats. The primary cats are on the headers and they are required to stay legal and pass emissions and inspection. The Secondary cats can be removed with no problems on 2000+ Boxsters.

cliolord says:

Did you get the EML lamp come on when removing the cats?

ProjectM97 says:

They say 7-8whp increase. It is hard to tell in reality since 7-8whp is not much. But my speedometer seems like it is showing quicker acceleration. haha.

Steve Starnes says:

Sounds good. Hows the performance increase?
