How to Change the Oil in a 1957 Porsche Speedster

Josh’s 1957 Porsche Speedster Replica needed to have an oil change. It has a Volkswagen 1917CC engine producing a whopping 120HP! It only has 2.5L of 20W-50 oil, and no oil filter! Only an oil screen. It’s an unusual engine and design, and our first time changing the oil on it. It even uses old school paper gaskets!

That engine is VW derived; designed to be mass-produced, run in less-than-ideal conditions and run using cheap resources. Quite different from Ferrari engines, which are design to rev high and survive the stresses of racing.

Man, you guys have never worked on a VW Beetle? That's surprising. They are super easy to work on and unfortunately it can be necessary often. A buddy of mine has always had a Beetle and at the height of our game we could do an engine swap in about 45 minutes. The oil screen can be cleaned and reused many times. The tubes that are leaking are the pushrod covers. While you're there you might as well adjust the valves. That is a cool car, great color combo.

Reminds of doing vw bugs back in the seventies
