MrStoneycool69 says:

Very much an oversight on behalf of Porsche even when they knew about the
problems, but that wasn’t the only problem. I believe the early Boxster
crankcases had porosity problems with oil mixing with the coolant and vice
versa, as well as cylinder liner separation and cracking. I believe this
problem has been rectified with the latest generation, but time will tell.
If I brought a Porsche, it would be 993 or earlier.

All cars are built to break NOT built to last. If they were built to last
the world would have 40% unemployment.

Craig Teale-Jones says:

I’d just like to add in the defence of Porsche that this was a problem
they, or no other car manufacturer, would have been able to foresee. The
testing obviously didn’t reveal this problem, and only a very small
percentage of cars actually do become affected by it. The testing process
would have been brutal, and I can say that the engineers would have been
just as surprised when this issue arose as the people who had bought their
cars. Porsches are very well designed and built, and this shouldn’t put
anyone off buying one. I could talk for days about German car disasters,
with a lot of those days coming courtesy of Mercedes-Benz, but could only
really spend 5 minutes talking about Porsche and only recall the account
that Archie did here.

Boerje69 says:

Well… You don’t buy expensive luxury car because of their reliability or
cheap maintenance costs.

utubeworms says:

jeez im glad i never bought one of these cars.

nissanzx123 says:

I owned a Boxster for several years. I upgraded the bearing with a new one
from LN engineering for $2700 with clutch. I ended up selling it due to
these horror stories. Other than the fear of bearing failure, hands down
the most fun car I’ve owned. I replaced it with a classic 1992 500SL.

somerville99 says:

Don’t know a thing about these cars but I liked the two chicks on top of
the car.
