I felt kinda nerdy checking out such an easy repair, having the added knowledge of allen size and torque spec was a bonus.
Very well described.
Thanks!

Very nice and clear instruction, will follow to do that in couple weeks later.
Thank you!

Why did you install new brake caliper retaining bolts, but re-use the old brake pad retaining pin?

VS Vensen, you made changing out my brake pads and rotors resurfaced so easy on my 1999 Boxster …..visual and excellent commentary makes all of the difference to make it so easy. Thank you so much!

Hi first of all I’d like to say thanks for all the great Porsche repair and maintenance videos. I have a question, what is the brake bedding process after installation.

Paul Smith says:

what is your opinion on just changing pads on the rear of a 997? the existing pads are at about 50% but I believe close to the sensors.

Paul Smith says:

I see that this is the same for a 997 rear brakes- do you have to bleed off the lines and pump the petal? if so can I do one side then the other? thanks for your great videos.

Hey I love your channel and videos about all your Porches! I cant wait to get an affordable 996 some day and these videos make me think they are even more affordable than i previously thought. I know we all have our own way of doing things, but when compressing the calibers I tend to use 2 pipe wrenches at once, easier on the rotor cause it doesn’t touch them like a pry-bar and can compress 2 at once (helps them from popping as you compress another). Just my opinion though!

Mike Grogan says:

Thanks very much for a great informative video. After seeing you working I have saved your videos and will change my own brake pads when they need doing. At least I can now safely check my pads and rotors for wear. I have the same 1999 996 and would appreciate any other work which you do on this vehicle. You got me laughing all the way to the bank my friend.

Thanks for a great set of a videos here….And hence, the reason why Porsche owners are so much cooler than Lamborghini or Ferrari owners. In all of the world of Youtube, do you think you’d find ONE video of a DIY Lambo or Ferrari service, like brake pads, etc?? Nope, not one. just a few oil changes. LAME!!!

I don’t even have a 996 and I still love watching this!

Thanks!

Excellent videos, very well explained, and very good work habits, too. The even tightening, use of a torque wrench, and triple-checking your torqued bolts is very reassuring and will help others develop similarly high standards for their own work as well!

Thanks for the tip – I will check these out tonight.

Awesome video! I’m on the hunt for my first Porsche, probably a 993 or 964, and while not the same ‘stuff’ exactly shown here, you made me think I could handle this job.

Loved the oil change one too!

Keep posting these – seriously, very very well done.

Very useful, clear and well presented video! Thanks

Your DIY videos are fantastic! Great explanations and clarity.
Any possibility you can post a DIY on 996 Spark Plug changes? Thanks for posting, they are extremely helpful for a shade tree like myself. You should develop a DIY DVD.

good video. consider buying a proper hammer. might want to clean your hub to avoid runout problems and crack your bleeders when pushing pistons back
