How to Replace Power Steering Box in a Pontiac Firebird or Chevy Camaro: Muscle Car Build Project

How to replace the power steering box in an early Pontiac Firebird or Chevy Camaro in our Muscle Car Build Project. This same power steering box can be found in a ton of General Motors cars and trucks such at the Chevy Nova, Chevy Chevelle, Chevy Pick Up Truck, Pontiac GTO, Pontiac Le Mans, and more!

This job takes about 30 minutes if you have all the tools you need, mostly just hand tools except for the pitman arm puller which you can rent for FREE from your local auto parts store.

This thing is HEAVY, so have a friend on hand to help you get it out of the muscle car, once out you will have to rebuild it or replace it.

If there is a lot of play in the steering could it also be a worn-out steering box, I have a 68 Camaro where I'm looking into replacing a steering box, my guess is I wore the steering box out moving it on tow trucks when it was broke down

I put a CP 500 steering box in my 67 Camaro. Fit like a charm. They are 360 bucks on summitt. FYI.

Do what the rest of us would do. Just replace it.

I would go ahead and just swap to a quick ratio box(Lares 1353).

BigGixx23 says:

I would say build it, however, I'm really concerned on the needle bearings
