How to replace a heater core on a Pontiac Grand Am and similar models

Today I will show you what it takes to change the heater core on a 1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am. It is the same for any trim level, GT or SE. It is also a similar procedure if you are working on a 1999-2004 Oldsmobile Alero, 1997-2003 Chevrolet Malibu or 1997-2002 Oldsmobile Cutlass. It is not as bad as I was expecting but it does require some uncomfortable working positions. Let’s get into it!

2 hours, I’d be 2 weeks, and that’s just getting it apart. Thanks for the great video! It was just like Friday come early. See you in the next installment.

JJ says:

Hey Scott, I have a question, hopefully you can give away some knowledge. For copart when it says "cert of title or salvage acq (clean title)" what in the world does it mean. Will it be salvage or clean? I keep getting the runaround when asking copart. Thank you

AnalogueKid2112 says:

You are braver than me working on airbags without disconnecting the 12 volt battery

Kro- Man says:

I thought for sure you were headed for Scott's Grand Am emporium for another dash.

Ian Tyler says:

2 hours to do that! would take me 2 Days and a lot of swearing. You could work on my car any day.

Muskoka Mike says:

scott's gm emporium didn't have another dash pad in stock? wth? I thought they had 5 of everything! Mgr is slacking off I think……

Henry The 83rd says:

Oh Nice! Not a Lexus!!

Bob Roberts says:

80's GM J body cars have a similar heater core set up. If the cars don't have a console, the core cover is accessible without removing the dash.

Muskoka Mike says:

7:20 hush panels, too bad they didn't make some to go between the driver's seat and the passenger…for those times when you're driving with your wife or gf lol

(oops did I say that outloud? hahahaha)

Muskoka Mike says:

6 minutes in and I can't help but remember having to replace the heater core in either my 1970 dodge dart or 1971 satellite. 30 minutes and like 8 bolts and some silicone. I'd never done one before but my dad over saw my work…..those old cars didn't have a lot of convenience features, or get that great of gas mileage but damn they were easy to work on.

225 slant six.

Muskoka Mike says:

"it could be worse" yeah it could be a land rover. I saw the car wizard do one, WHAT A MESS.

John Householder says:

Those are rarely fun, good job Scott.thanks John from Arizona

Larry Be says:

Much respect watching you do this job. Like you said it is not your first one, etc. but it still is quite an ordeal.
