Gear Head Mechanics says:

Mike Wall – The bolts require a torque then a Degree turn. so i used the
torque wrench to tighten them all to torque spec then i used a “cheater”
(socket and ratchet with extension) so im able to make the turn.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tighten the cylinder head bolts to 44 ft.lbs (60 N-m) in the order
shown in illustration. Use the J 36660-A torque angle meter in order to
rotate the cylinder head bolts an additional 95 degrees.
this make sure that sucker seats right
daniel hurtado says:
I unfortunately have the 3.4 with the 2 motor mounts in the front, and as
well I have to take off the ac compressor to get the motor mount bracket
off. Is there anything extremely different from my motor and the one you
worked on that I should know about? Thanks
I’m doing one for the first time but its on a rendezvous…. Do u have to
put the car in time, also do have to use feeler gauge on the rocker arms or
u just tighten them down tight like a side first time any major pointers u
can give me…. Thanks in advance
Steven Sapyak says:
10.14.14. Just a few suggestions, I use a Lisle 48300 pushrod removal tool
to remove the pushrods before I loosen & remove the rocker arm bolts &
rocker arms, if you don’t use the tool it’s imperative that the valves be
on their seats! Turn the crank to index each cylinders valves so they are
closed. ( Intake & Exhaust). You tube is replete with videos of 3100/3400
engines ticking or knocking after replacing the L.I.M. Gaskets or head
gaskets! The rocker arm bolt holes in the aluminum head strip out due to
the tension placed on the rocker arm bolt/thread,& aluminum threads in the
hole, junction. Also there are block drain plugs on both cylinder banks to
drain the heads & block of coolant. They are 9/16 hex head plugs. Replace
them with brass petcocks.
Canu900 says:
how do you remove a BROKEN intake manifold bolt out of the head
Mark Dickson, CMA says:
Mark D. – When you were taking off the exhaust pieces from the heads you
had broken off a couple bolts in the video. Just wondering how you got the
rest of the bolt out so that new ones could be used when putting things
back together?
Also, do the heads need to be shaved down in case they are warped from the
heat?
Thanks
juan jose morales martinez says:
Hey bro, how many and wich gasket changed? Greetings and thanks.
Mike Wall says:
So after you torqued the head bolts why did you take your socket and wrench
and do it more? Wouldn’t it make more sense to use the torque wrench and do
it so you knew that they were done correctly?
Jacob Wilkerson says:
I was taking off the back exhaust and broke a bolt, what do I do
rob Simms says:
and also how tight do i put on the rocker arms i have a 2002 pontiac grand
am its 3400
OneLove7161 says:
Great video helped me a lot I do have one question.. On the heads it has
two of thos sleevs on the corners to help seat the gasket and head to the
block.. I’m working on a 2000 Monte Carlo. Problem is there are two more
sleeve things on each head black in color.. They are between the ones in
the corners And also just push in they came off of it but now before
putting it back together I can’t figure out how they sit or why they are
even there I didn’t see then in your video.. any suggestions? I’m at a loss
thanks
james arnold says:
the left one off to get the exhaust off. Very helpful video.
Ryan McDuffie says:
step and I’m basically done putting everything back together. Hopefully my
car starts when I turn the key. lol
