Use the STARTER to break lose that main bolt with a breaker bar/socket
wedged on the bolt. Works like a charm.

tlcbear2 says:

well don’t think that would have worked on this car. i used a air impact
with 750ft lbs of torque and still had trouble getting it lose. the way you
have suggested would have done more damage then good.and not to safe either.

tlcbear2 says:

hey thats great glad i was able to help you in doing your repair.

Joshua Hinde says:

Thanks for the video, it helped me with my 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GT.

tlcbear2 says:

yea my dad did teach me to make it if i can. he made a few tools over the
years and still have them.

Jimmy Mcgee says:

I cant get the pulley bolt off, how do you hold the pulley from turning,
there is a tool, to hold it with but I don’t want to pay 60.00, for a one
time tool, my impact drill just stammers and hammers but wont loosen the
bolt, this bolt loosens counter-clockwise doesn’t it? 95 buick Riviera 3800
engine you took that bolt so easy, mine wont budge, I’ve everything, i’m
afraid of ruining the pulley itself, or breaking the bolt, any suggestions?
my name is jim!

Would have been nice if you actually showed how you pulled it off an what
you used

tlcbear2 says:

hi jim well i ended up getting out my big air gun which has either 650 or
750 ftlbs of torque to get that bolt lose.my first impact was a 300 ftlb
and it just laughed and didnt budge it.with my big impact it still took a
little bit to get it to come out.i also didnt have to stop motor from
turning it did move just a little.and yes the bolt is counter clock wise to
come out i see at the factory they put a loctite on the threads so it
wouldnt come lose. hope this helps.

tlcbear2 says:

well the puller i used is one that can be bought at any parts house.and as
dave1135 there is a special bolt kit to do this.what i used was all home
made and i didnt have time to go into how to make it, so the the parts used
are not availible any where else as they were home made.

dave1135 says:

Kent morre makesva special bolt kit for that to pull the balancer, but its
$50. Glad to see u homemade a set.
