torque is 159 flbs btw

Trent7224 says:

nice video. in future though buy Timken or skf . u will be replacing them
again with any other brand. been there done that duralast is probably
better than most off brands but you can order Timken online for cheaper
than you can buy duralast at auto zone.

jimmy byrd says:

Hi, did you rent that puller at Autozone? do you know what type it is?
thanks

LaBalaDePlata432 says:

Whats the hub nut torque? Thanks in advance

parkingvalidated says:

roughly how long did it take you to do this job?

tknoman says:

@korypalacios – I needed to replace the whole Hub Assembly

korypalacios says:

im replacing mine today on an 06 G6 as well, and its making that loud
humming noise etc, is it the whole assembly or the bearing, if you could
please get back to me at my email kory_palacios@yahoo.com please and thank
you (its the front drivers side)

Hey, it’s the music from that Apollo Ohno commercial

tknoman says:

@cloudshe You are correct the car does a lot of things well, and I really
do like it other than this bearing wear issue. I am on the 3rd set of
bearings for the front wheels right now. The car has 85xxx miles on it, it
seems a little ridiculous honestly, but given I know how to do it myself it
is much cheaper than taking it to the shop each time. The first set of
bearings went bad at 35000 miles, so those were still under warranty at
least!

KaneeshaCordy says:

do the rear on ag6 have bearings

cloudshe says:

excellent production! i’ve got a 07 g6 coupe w/ a noisy RR bearing, i can
see some slop/wiggle in the assy when i rock the tire w/ the wheel off the
ground. the LR has No wiggle. i suspect the bearing has also caused a
warped RR brake rotor, just had it resurfaced because of noticeable
vibration, it was moderately warped, LR was better. thanks for the video,
Great job!!

Richard B says:

just did it on a 06 pontiac pursuit, cost was about $150 + $15 for a 30mm
socket. Time was about 2h, no puller needed for me just a mallet.

cloudshe says:

@tknoman just fyi but the Only problem i’ve ever had with wheel bearings
(other than greasing them when scheduled) is a couple corvettes (a 65 and a
79) which were notorious for that problem. but at least the g6 does a lot
of things well, i Did find that if you hit a speed bump hard enough (it was
real dark) you can bust the plastic radiator & drain it dry. thanks again
for the video!

sscamaroburn02 says:

hi very informative video. I think i might have a bad passenger front wheel
bearing going out. my car makes this howling noise as I get faster it gets
more noticeable. i have rotated the tires and noise is in same exact area.
was your car making this noise also? was it quiet again after you replace
it?? thanks.

tknoman says:

@sscamaroburn02 – Yes it was making a humming sound, You can really tell
when you turn the car. For example when you turn left, if you hear the
right side get louder, it most likely is the bearing. As you turn you’re
putting more force/weight on that side of the vehicle so it will get
louder. Once I replaced it, the car did not continue to make the noise.

tknoman says:

@cloudshe Thank you! I will actually be replacing my FR bearing on the g6
this weekend. I was going to do another production but include video with
all the steps, Stay posted!

cloudshe says:

@tknoman yeah, wonder if the bearings were under-engineered. wonder if the
4 cyl and 6 cyl cars use the same bearings. could an alignment problem be
the cause? i use the caveman approach & measure everything myself rather
than have someone else do it and get no feedback.

Great to know this can be a do-it-yourself job. What tools are necessary
for doing this? Is the hub pulled necessary or does it just make it easier?

tknoman says:

@parkingvalidated I think it took a good 3-4 hours, I don’t recall exactly.

sscamaroburn02 says:

@tknoman-thanks for the response. I can’t really tell if it gets any louder
when I turn but I think i will check the wheel hub assembly tonight and see
if has slack in it at all. my car sounds like it has huge tires on it the
way its howling. goood video so can replace myself. doesn’t look to hard

JGiffpaintball says:

Nice vid very helpful thumbs up

tknoman says:

Mainly I just used a couple different sockets, a torque wrench with a axle
nut socket. The hub puller isn’t required but it makes the job a lot
easier…..A lot of auto part stores allow you to rent various tools, a hub
puller is generally on the list.
