Anyone looking to replace a water pump on a sunfire can also refer to a
Chevy Cavalier. There is a great video on a 2002 Cavalier water pump
replacement that has helped us out tons. Not quite as entertaining as Al,
but more informative. The Video is by EricTheCarGuy.
i’m having a little bit of an issue getting the bolts off of my thermostat
housing. Could you tell me what tool you used and the size of the bolts
that were on there? I heard they were 8mm, but the socket slips when I try
to loosen, so maybe that isn’t the right size.
These water pumps are easier than in the earlier versions. I have a 88
sunbird which is the same car just earlier version. They were driven by the
timing belt. So to do the job you need to remove the reservoir, alternator,
power steering pump, tensioner, timing cover, timing belt, and finally the
water pump. then you need to adjust the timing after doing it. I am waiting
on a replacement timing belt might as well replace it since I am in there.
But head gasket would be easy on it. lol Good job
right on buddy i can’t afford a mechanic my self i am in the same boat i
got a 98 sunfire and i need to change my water pump but not one vid on how
to do a water pump in a sunfire. lol blow torch and a half stick of
dynamite

You are right, Pontiac or GM did a piss poor job at designing this car.
Thanks for the video
I broke both bleeders the first time I attempted this lol. Lucky enough,
bleeders are sold at most auto part stores.
