1991 Firebird Project Budget DIY Exhaust Replacement/Repair (Ep.4)

In this episode we will remove the rusty old exhaust that is full of holes and already lacking a muffler, since it rusted through and broke off. We will be replacing everything behind the catalytic converter, so we bought a new intermediate pipe and a Thrush Hush aftermarket muffler. We’ll get a little creative and patch/reuse the old tailpipe in order to keep this as cheap as possible!

Dates of filming: July 25th, 2018 (Exhaust Work)
July 30th, 2018 (Clips of Running Car)

I have been thinking about that bit where you were turning the radio volume up with the impact gun all day. That is probably the funniest thing I have seen in months. Loved the video. Very entertaining and informative. Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Scott Boyer says:

At least you tried…

Gibbster 11 says:

Actually the easiest way to remove the exhaust is to have it fall apart when you hit a bump in the road and get caught and ripped off

DaGingerHeadMan says:

I gotta say, your film making is good, better than most for automotive videos.

Trick to getting those tail pipes out. They slip inside the muffler, so taking a cut off wheel or using a exhaust pipe cutter with a air hammer, peel back the muffler pipe on two sides to free the pipe. Then taking a pipe expander and a impact, use it to smooth out the dimples in the pipe caused by the clamp. Then install the pipe in the new muffler and use a new clamp.
