1991 Firebird Interior Cleanout and Sway Bar End Link Replacement (Ep.5)

1991 Firebird Interior Cleanout and Sway Bar End Link Replacement (Ep.5)

One of the rear sway bar end links is broken, so we will go ahead and replace both. Easier said than done when both are completely seized and rusted in place in every possible way! The battery hold-down stud is also broken, so we will have to do something about that. Then, we finally clear out all of the junk piled up in the car. A few surprises were waiting under all that stuff!

Dates of filming: July 25th, 2018 (End Links and Battery Tie Down)
July 26th, 2018 (Clearing Out Car)
August 1st, 2018 (Sorting Car Contents)

Song List (Order of First Appearance):
0:00 Brontosaurus – Topher Mohr and Alex Elena
5:05 Merry Go Round – Dan Lebowitz

You could just hammer a smaller socket onto the security lug nut, and get it off using a breaker bar and large socket (do not use an impact on the security lug nut, as it could strip). But it is MUCH easier to just use the security socket. Good job on finding it!

Tigerfire75 says:

Are you sure it didn't soil the carpet?

The Universal Homesteader says:

I had an old firebird when I was growing up and still is may most favorite car. Thanks for sharing this! It is bringing back memories.

Justin Chism says:

Wow, those tires are old. Looks like the DOT number says "139" , 13th week of 1999. Don't drive on those if you can help it.

Jason Moyle says:

Its funny to know that someone cared so much about those old ugly looking wheels that they put on a set of lock nuts for wheels studs.

gosportjamie says:

Yes, it's amazing what you can find inside a newly-acquired old vehicle. More amazing is the fact that you bought an old car with security wheel nuts and the socket for them was still in it…

kylitosan says:

These videos are just the right mix between Eric the car guy and random old guys that have valuable information. Keep up the great work!

SilentServiceCode says:

No captions. Video skipped

ribs Rtuil says:

glad you were able to find the key to your security nuts. i had the same issue with my 90 firebird and had no idea what they were and if i had the key. luckily it was in my center console

Shawn Stafford says:

LoL funny how a 35mm plastic film canister always seems to be the best place for the locking lugs key storage place.

Shawn Stafford says:

I've watched 2 of Ur videos now & I can relate to the repairs. I'm also guilty of cutting the top metal, to replace fuel pump on my 1st GTA before.

red7fifty says:

The sandals are for you to heel and toe express your way home when something else breaks…..I'd put those back in the glove box.

Scott says:

You should get a pneumatic hammer or rivet gun for maximum hammering power.

T.F.D ! says:

Keep them coming

Shane Singleton says:

Definitely a score finding the security socket.

Midnight Mechanic says:

I gotta get my sun visors reupholstered, the fabric gets so brittle from constant daylight and heat/cold cycles that it falls apart, just like the cardboard panels it surrounds. Get some good, thick interior fabric, you'll never have to worry about the visor fabric again.

murphragous says:

That velcro belt is a ground strap you wear on the outside of a shoe. It is meant to discharge static from your body so you dont spark when you touch metal.

jironmeister says:

Some rust converter on the underframe also on rear axle…

Matt H. says:

Who the f$%k in their right minds would cut into the rear trunk like that to get to the fuel pump? Too damn lazy to do the job right and drop the fuel tank? Geez, what a hack job to a good rear trunk that didn't need to be cut. Some mickey mouse sh*t.

23Prospero37 says:

Taking the tires off might have made it easier to access that area

Kyle Moore says:

I belive they make a lug nut key set at harbor freight if you ever run into that issue again
