How long can last a timing belt and how long can last the water pump?

—– The Dealer just replace my timing belt, but not the water pump and not even the idle, or tensioner. The Water pump is guaranty for 100.000 miles by Hyundai.

The old timing was brand new, just dust and the car had only 50,300 miles, but more than 48 month since production date, so I didn’t want any risk.

this is true. but the d15 tdc marks go flush with the head as the d16 mark is the one at the bottom of the cam gear needs to line up with the arrow on the back cover. slightly different

The D16Z6 has a different tdc cam mark than the D15B7, yes, but my engine is a D15B VTEC and it has the same tdc mark on the cam as the D16Z6.

I didn’t replace those seals but I probably should have since I had access to them while doing the timing belt replacement.

If the part that the water pump bolts onto is leaking you have to remove some bolts at the back of the engine to get it out. I think there’s only 2 or 3 bolts that hold it on.

It’s the same whether you have an automatic or manual transmission. If you have a 92-95 Civic EX then you should have a 1.6L SOHC VTEC D16Z6 engine which is exactly the same as my engine except mine is a 1.5L JDM engine and yours is USDM. The procedure for doing this job would be exactly the same though.

D15B JDM VTEC. It’s always a good idea to disconnect the battery when doing major work on a vehicle.

Can’t argue with that, you’re right. I just wanted to hurry up and get the job done. I am now much more careful about torquing bolts to the proper torque value when work on my cars or bikes.

There should be timing marks on the crank shaft timing belt gear and there should be marks on the camshaft timing belt gear(s).

Good videos! definatly gives an idea of jthe job. The only thing I did not like is, you used the Engine as an Impact Gun to put the Dampener Bolt on. That bolt is supposed to be Torqued to Spec about 130ft lbs. Best way to do this is Remove the Dust Cover and Wedge a Pry Bar on the Flywheel Pinion Gear and Torque Bolt to Spec. Good help otherwise

I don’t care two bits about long nails from an aesthetic viewpoint but if you are regularly doing car repairs, it is good from a health perspective to always keep them short. The danger of long nails is that they have a high tendency to trap black dirt from car repairs which usually contains some grease / engine oil / etc. Since they are difficult to wash off from under the nails, they will most likely be consumed with our food & drink. I won’t be surprised if many mechanics have died of cancer.

ohhh forgot to tell you mate don’t buy any new fuel injectors too they are too expensive just go to a scrapyard the’re cheaper and you after you buy then make sure you make a fuel injectors test to make sure it’s ok – even with those one’s that you have on your Renault 2l you can do that. and check the rubber on the injectors too all around the injection system

I am certainly not an expert by any means but If the auxilliary shaft just turns the oil pump, what difference does it make if the shaft sprocket is lined up with the marks anyway since the oil pump doesn’t need to be “in time” with the crankshaft and camshaft? What am I missing?

Those are good tips. I wish I would have checked the valve gaps while I had the valve cover off.

I’m not familiar with that car so my advice may not be too helpful but I’ll try to help you. First thing to check is if the check engine light is on. If it is then you must get the code to find out what the ECU is reporting as malfunctioning. If that is the case, fix whatever is malfunctioning and see how it runs then. You could also try replacing the spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor(if it has them). If you make a video about it I may be able to help you better.

I have a Renault Laguna 2l. I bought the car from a friend of mine in this condition. It struggles to start. If the engine is running it sounds ok but soon as you ref it up it miss fires. I did a compression test and it is ok, checked the cam timing thats ok, replaced the spark plugs. My friend replaced the computer box,and petrol pump. Can you perhaps assist me with fault finding please. My friend spend R17000-00 on the problem. The max speed is only 50kmp Thank you Hans Kruger
