Replace 99 Olds Aurora Accessory Belt Tensioner & Belt

Replace 99 Olds Aurora Accessory Belt Tensioner & Belt

I finally got the money together to fix my Oldsmobile Aurora. I ordered an accessory belt tensioner and belt from Amazon with free 2 day shipping due to having Amazon Prime.

The job itself went very fast and easy. I had the shield removed already in order to see what parts I needed so half the job was nearly done.

The two bolts which held the shield in place had to be removed next. This allowed me to remove the belt tensioner pully assembly. Next I was able to remove the old belt.

The belt was actually in very good shape considering that the pulley had been broken in half.

But I put in the new belt anyway and will keep the old belt as a spare.

And last I put the new tensioner pulley in place with its two retaining bolts.

I had to use a 13mm socket and wrench to compress the tensioner pulley spring so I could get the belt onto the pulley.

And then I put the shield back on with the two nuts. I am missing a bolt for the shield which I have to replace one day.

And last there is a plastic box that goes onto the air filter housing which I had removed to do the job.

And that was it.

I put the battery back into the car. I had it out because the car had been sitting for a while and I needed to recharge the battery.

And the car started right up.

Melanie and I went to town. We had been stranded at home for about ten days now.

I got my parts on Amazon here:

Golly, 1999. I thought I was the only one who drove old vehicles into the ground anymore. How many miles on that thing?

Marcia Tokarchuk says:

I had a car just like yours. I now have the 2003, the last year they made them. Best cars ever! I hope it lasts forever.

MrBugsier5 says:

Bill says:

now she can leave when he is needing to use the truck, she could do the shopping or visit friends while he is working on other projects. Glad you got it going again, having 2 vehicles make life a little easier.

MrCelticatheart says:

constructive criticism time Troy. I do mean constructive too. I would imagine others have noticed as well as I did your sound is very low in volume since you have went to the go pro camera. Did you say you were using a canon camcorder before, such as a vixia with a microphone jack on it? You need a lavalier mic for it! Then your sound quality will be tons better! If you aren't directly in front of the cam the sound sucks! They do have a lavalier mic on amazon for between 30 to 40 dollars. Good luck. wow I just saw douglas ayliffe's post so others do notice it too!

Eddie B says:

Did any oil get in the cooling system of your truck when the Trolls poured oil in your overflow tank?

Laura Puzzetti says:

Troy you may need to start up-scaling your video editing skills now that you have a drone and some cool music would be a great place to start, try this Music: http://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary or other ones on the web (just be careful of those copyright ones if you know what I mean!)

David Johnson says:

Nice to see the car running but what's wrong with the truck? Can't you just flush the oil out of the cooling system?

Nortekj says:

LOL, now he is gonna run all the stale gasoline out so he can get some fresh gasoline.

Gary H says:

You da man!

Glenokla says:

Awesome! I feel better knowing you all have a working automobile again. Congratulations! Good job Troy!

BrenLL2 says:

Great job!!!

MissX905 says:

Finally got some $ to get it fixed huh? Good thing for having a backup vehicle and it was an easy enough fix. It's likely cheaper to drive a car then the big truck anyways. Will you be selling the truck?
