Did your water pump make a slight whine before it started going bad and leaking or was there no leakage. i have a 88 3800 engine in a buick lesabre t-type 89, im starting to hear noise right from the pump, figure it might need changing. thanks for input.

Excellent tutorial – I hope it’s as easy as you make it look!

Thanks. You suck.

Marc99GT says:

If I missed it, I apologize, but people should know that the 4 long(approx 3 1/8″ long) bolts go into the water jacket and you should use a thread sealer/RTV or they will leak.

Marc99GT says:

I have done many and damn GM puts mounts in the way and somestimes not. The 1993 Olds 88 I did today had the motor mount in the way. Not a big deal if you have done them before.

Good video BTW. I actually use 3m 77 spray adhesive to hold the gaskets in place and then a thin coat of Black RTV on the other side just in case.

Stephen Anderle says:

while you are there change front main oil seal. haven’t figured out how to remove crank pulley yet. may be special puller or three push bolts.

Stephen Anderle says:

Yes. Jack up right side of car. support frame . remove wheel. pull the two “nails” out of grommets in the fenderwell shield. remove shield. look at bottom engine mount bolt. remove nut. loosen stud. use belt to catch spacer then remove stud. change belt use new belt to hold spacer in position, insert stud thru bracket and spacer. tighten then put on nut .and tighten.reroute belt.
to get last water pump bolt. 3 holes in pulley of power steering pump access 2 mounting bolt

WOW nice video. I have 2001 Grand prix I think its the same motor. This made everything much clearer! THANKS!

bobdude2360 says:

yes u have to jack up the motor to remove the mount be careful make sure u use a block of wood so u dont damage the oil pan. also a good idea is to loosen the mount from the frame first then the engine then jack it up to take pressure of the mount then remove. Now can get access to all the water pump bolts then remove bad pump replace and do every thing in reverse an u should be back on the road in no time. Well hope this helps and u get the car fixed good luck and take it easy peace.

buckinut365 says:

Nice video man, done this today on a 99 regal. Only thing I ran into that caused a problem was I had to remove the bolts to the to the power steering pump to get to one last bolt on the water pump.

joshua3113 says:

Hey, I have a motor mount in the way on my park ave too. Did you have to brace the motor to remove the mount? Someone said I need to jack up the motor but I’m not sure if it will be stable enough or not to work on with that mount off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

joshua3113 says:

This is all the stuff I knew about. Thing is I have a 92 park ave and it has a motor mount there. I was wondering how I work around that. Like, do I have to jack the motor up in order to work on the water pump?

Jamie Gibson says:

GREAT video, thanks!

bobdude2360 says:

Ant R says:

or can you just tell me what you think it could be

Ant R says:

. I started driving again to head to a mechanic, the knocking noise started again and my oil pressure went back down to 0 psi again and eventually my car stop on me and started smoking. To make a long story short the mechanic told me it was my oil pump, then after investigating it a little more he told me that is was my water pump that was not functioning because my car was overheating. Is it true for the water pump to make the psi of the oil to make it read 0 psi if the water pump fails to work

Ant R says:

Question, i have a 2002 buick lesabre custom, first it was making a knocking noise, then it shut down on me, it starting smoking from where you put the oil in at and the oil dip stick. The information center told me i had no oil pressure, so i added some oil thinking I didnt have any oil, after adding oil, i look at the information center and it told me i had 129 psi of oil pressure.

gracias por este video me ayudo mucho.. ya que era la primera vez que quitaba la bomba de agua de mi auto,,,

Leonard Nugent says:

Great video. Thanks for posting. I have a 2004 Park Avenue 3800 Type II and there is only a one thing different, the power steering pump is on the bottom. Other then that it was pretty similar. After installing the water pump I found out the pump was good all I really needed was to replace 2 plastic heater hose connectors. Learn something new everyday.
