How to start this 2001 Oldsmobile Alero

It’s very weird…are there any more Aleros out there like this besides this one? The video explains it.

welcome to alero (bizzarro?) world, of passlocks, passkeys, security
lights, etc. causing people to go nuts just starting the car …. hadn’t
seen this particular “2-chimes” issue yet. yor lucky, at least it does end
up starting! ;-/

fanowner12 says:

I’ve started an Alero before (a coupe) and it never did what yours is
doing.

Cool video!

carexpertandy says:

This one isn’t having problems though, it just has this weird security
system where you have to wait for those 2 quick beeps after turning the key
to “ON” before starting it

carexpertandy says:

Ive actually talked in more videos than that, just certain periods

ZappingHero says:

I wonder, is this your first or second video uploaded on YouTube of you
talking?

carexpertandy says:

Thanks! From what other people have told me, this seems to be some
aftermarket security system

Nice, I’ve owned 3 Oldsmobiles in my life. 2 of them shared between my
mother and me.

kdksiren says:

We have a ’99 Malibu which is pretty much the same thing. Just stick the
key in and start. With the beep after you turn it off, wonder if its a
ignition interlock anti-theft thing? No one would want to steel the Malibu
(haha) so it doesnt have any theft prevention. But this is a nicer car.
Does the owners manual say anything about it? Never heard of this before.
Aftermarket or dealer add on when bought?

usaearthling says:

My sister had a 2001 Alero and had problems starting it also. She would
turn the key and it wouldn’t do anything, so she had to sit there and try
several times to start it. The whole car was a piece of sh@t, it was
falling apart, little by little.

theWORKMASTERS says:

Ahh … that would make sense. good stuff !!

theWORKMASTERS says:

Really Kool vid … crazy engineers 🙂

carexpertandy says:

Well many cars these days do have an ignition disable which prevents you
from starting the car unless you have the right key which has a chip inside
that the ignition needs to recognize. This is able to prevent starting by
hot-wiring. I have looked in the owners manual maybe a few times, but never
found anything like this. The car has had this ever since my grandparents
bought it in 2003, so idk how this car got to have this such thing
