Dave Richards says:

I removed the headliner without breaking the trim clips, you just have to remove the headliner rear wards by pulling it towards the back seat and you should be good but you have to remove the back trip which headliner is tucked in.

olds7980 says:

Bought the material at a local auto upholstery shop and all the tips are in the videos. Make sure you watch all parts.

YoungMacy says:

idk if you’ll answer this but im restoring a 1979 monte carlo same g body family and im doing everything myself where did you get the headliner material from? also any tips? thank you so much

olds7980 says:

Unfortunately they can’t be saved. I have replaced many head liners in these cars and there is no way to remove the trim with out breaking the clips. You will have to buy new ones. You may get lucky with one or two.

Adam Dubeau says:

How do you take out the plastic clips that hold the rear trim in above the windshield without breaking them off? Trying to save them without breaking them all.

olds7980 says:

Yeah just the same as a two door.

Kelly Melton says:

would this still be possible in a four door model like the caprice ?

olds7980 says:

It comes out either of the doors with no problem. Just a little tight.

Kelly Melton says:

How do you get the headliner board out? do you have to take out the back seat an take it out thru the trunk? have an 87 chevy caprice im going to try and do this too. the seats in the 80 models did not fold down. can you remove it from the side door?

olds7980 says:

Yep the aluminum tape works wonders.

superchager666 says:

Thanks for the too I was trying to think of how to reinforce some worn corners in my T-tops. Aluminum tape.., thanks again

olds7980 says:

Thanks for the pointers Eddie. It helps everyone watching.

Eddie1962150 says:

It out with a wide paint brush. Lay your cloth on the back and rub it in with a roller. Let it dry. Do it one more time in the opposite direction. This way you have two layers going in opposite directions. One front to back,Other side to side. Be careful and don’t get to thick. On the side that shows, Don’t use foam. Use thick felt as a backing. Once all is dry. Glue whatever color of cloth or vinyl you want to the front side. This will last forever. You may have to drill out some holes.

Eddie1962150 says:

Let me drop another bug in your ear. Here is one that works even better. I had a 78 Pontiac that did this. This is how we fixed it. We fiber glassed it on the back side. Mine was broke in two pieces almost down the middle. We glued the two pieces together just to hold them in place. Flip it over. Lay your fiber class cloth out on the floor. Lay it in a basket weave pattern. Glue each piece together and let it dry. Once dry, Pour out some resin on the back side of the board and spread. CONT”

olds7980 says:

The aluminum tape was only on the back side with nothing showing through on the front.

Kipp Miller says:

I was wondering how well the adhesive stuck to the aluminum tape. Just started doing my headliner and I’ve got some repairs to do lol

olds7980 says:

Make the rounds at your local junk yards. You can pick it up dirt cheap I am sure. Just be careful removing it. They are FRAGILE!

My1969cutlass says:

My cutlass doesn’t have the board do you know where I can pick one up for a reasonable price?

Moralvorstellung7 says:

Yes, I get it now. I’ll be doing mine this weekend. Thank you

olds7980 says:

It comes out through the side and much easier if the front seat is out. Trim pieces hold it up on all four sides and the trim pieces are held in with clips and screws. The dome light holds up the center and the visors and coat hooks also hold it up.

Moralvorstellung7 says:

How do you get the board out of the car? Through the windshield? And what holds it up? Screws? Thanks!

Lawrence Eich says:

Years ago I had a 78 regal that had a head liner in very poor condition and being very cheap, I chose to repair it the foam was so dried out I used a small broom to remove it.To restore rigidity I brusned on fiberglass resin and old cloth and a little glass material in the bad spots but it came out looking like new it only cost $50 in materials. To buy a new headliner would have been over $200 a cheap recover would have been $80 buck those never last !!

creamjj says:

This is will save me some money for sure, being a lady I think I can do this

olds7980 says:

You need to go to a junkyard and get yourself the headliner board out of a C10 that already has one and use that. The headliner board is held in my the interior molding. You will see how it all goes together once you head to the junkyard.

brucekirk89 says:

i got a 82 chevy c10,,it dont have any headliner and i want to put a two peice headliner, first layer will be the backing board and the second will be a big chevy sing then carpet so the chevy sing is a bump,,,but how do i attach the whole thing to my ruf ther is no screw holes,,i have a double layer ruf,and it a bent ruf so how do i bend the board and attach it???

olds7980 says:

Yeah check out my other Hurst Olds updates and you can see how it turned out. Looks great! Thanks for watching.

Smar19 says:

hey man never did see your finished headliner video? did you get it all and finished?

olds7980 says:

I don’t see why you can’t use a Fleece blanket as the headliner but if you use too much adhesive it might bleed through the blanket so just be careful there. Thanks for watching.
