1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass-fix exhaust manifolds & make exhaust y-pipe, fix steering and starter switch

So this is a car I’ve only fixed one other time, replacing the starter but now it has a very bad exhaust leak which I think compromise the starter but in reality the starter was okay but I warranted it anyway.

somebody put in a Chevy 350 & turbo 350, swapped out the Oldsmobile 307 and 200 4r transmission.

They did a pretty lousy job and everything was rigged.

This in particular was bad because of the exhaust.

In the video I corrected the whole exhaust system, milled the exhaust manifolds by myself by hand, and made my own y-pipe.

I change the neutral safety switch and corrected a few wires which corrected the reverse lights but unfortunately by the time the car got towed back to the guy’s house the car still didn’t start despite changing the starter again, the ignition switch, and the neutral safety switch. it turns out the ignition switch was bad but lieu of fixing it, somebody put a relay and tucked it behind the transmission so that use the relay instead. unfortunately none of this was filmed. I would never even suspect somebody doing this because the circuit is usually very good on these cars. I was telling the owner of the car that this is something that I actually see on European car is like BMWs and Volkswagens and whatnot, Mercedes-Benz as well because even on the older cars they were kind of complicated and the switches were extremely expensive any how to change the key as well I believe…

soon as he broke down I knew it had to be the wire going from the dashboard to the starter and not only was it a relay but it was poorly wired with very bad connections and that’s why I would work and not work prior to this and I was blaming the exhaust system for overheating the starter. when he gave me the car it did not work as soon as he took it off the tow truck and it’s basically because the car is at a 45-degree angle and it loosened the connection. when I gave it back to him it was working, but it ended up failing when I got to his house as it never started because of the same 45 degree angle. so I drove 90 miles to New Jersey to go fix it and it took me about 10 minutes to just completely bypassed that crappy relay that they put in.

car runs really good now and the Car steers much better but there is much more to be done but at least they have me to figure all this stuff out. they need to fix the gauges because the guy just hacked all the wires apart when they did the lousy engine swap…
