**UPDATE** How to replace nissan key fob battery

I made a video last year on how to replace a battery in a Nissan key fob and it was brought to my attention that I didn’t film the actual opening of the fob. So in this video I filmed the correct way to do so.

Mine had a 2025 but I had a 2032 laying around and it worked. So I guess the batteries are interchangeable. I just locked my car with it. Thanks for the awesome info! Super helpful!

It is important to note the battery orientation. On all the Nissans I've owned the + side went down so the back side is up when you replace the fob cap. Also be sure not to bend the little clip that holds the battery in place. You should slip the new battery underneath it. As someone else noted not all the batteries are CR2032. Be sure to check the number on the old one and use the proper battery.

Big help, thanks!

No divots on our fobs. There are a couple of small ones for a screwdriver after you pull out the key. Fuck you Nissan.

I don't have the side divots for the 2011 Nissan Rogue.

Thank you! Even though the '16 Maxima fobs no longer have those side thingies, taking it apart with a butter knife still worked.

Just wanted to thank you for uploading this video. Got the low key battery warning this morning, bought a battery at lunch, and just replaced it under 5 minutes. I would have been hopeless without these simple yet thorough instructions (never replaced a car key battery before). Thanks again!

M Dee says:

holy crap, thanks!

My car has been giving me warning the last 2 weeks my battery was low and then today, it took about 4 tries to get it started!
And then I couldn't figure out where the battery was. Thanks so much!

EDIT: My key FOB to my 2015 Altima doesn't have the little holes on the side, but you can still open it up by just carefully sliding a butter knife on the seams.

Alexander Milentis says:

Just a heads up, some take 2025 and some take 2032- it will so on the inside of the key fob. My Murano has 2 key fobs and for some reason each one takes a different battery. I'm assuming one is a replacement fob.
