This is the definitive guide to installing a radio into a Nissan SUV or truck. This covers everything from removing the old radio, wiring up harnesses, and installing a mic/usb extender. I am demonstrating on a 2005, second generation Nissan Xterra.

Vincent Cicatiello says:

Thanks for the video! Did you wire the negative cable straight from the radio wires or did you connect it to the harness?

Robert Beals says:

Never never never used butt connectors always put on your shrink tube and solder the connection then slide your Flink to shrink tube over the solder joint and heat the tube with a lighter to make it weather tight fit

Julio Hernandez says:

Hi Ry! I have an 06 without the Rockford radio the basic one. If I upgrade the head unit do I need to change speakers? Or are the factory speakers ok? I know the factory ones are 2 ohm. Thanks in advance!

Corey Kuhlman says:

What are the specific sizes for the speakers and the maximum size of stereo receiver that can fit in a 2015 Nissan Xterra? Thank you and much appreciated!!

Apostate Alexei says:

Thanks for another invaluable xterra video! I have a 2005 and I made the mistake of having my new stereo installed at car toys. The normal installer got sick, and one of the front office guys stepped in. I have steering wheel controls but they told me I'd have to come back and get a special connector for this JVC and it would cost another $160. I noticed you don't have steering wheel controls, but is there any way you could do a video on that? Sorry for the long comment.

kdl55 says:

Very thorough. Thank you.

Leo Soto DeSotto says:

savyas69 says:

What did you do for ebrake bypassing?

Shawn Dienhart says:

For all my years on YouTube and the thousands of 'how to' videos I've seen, this is by far the finest video out there of any type of how to video. Ry the Car Guy should be super proud.

Jason Sumpter says:

I have a 2006 Xterra. I keep seeing antenna adapters. Will I need one for an aftermarket radio?

Scott Kirby says:

Extremely well done video. Subscribed. Do you have a guide on hooking up the parking brake lead for Android Auto? And maybe the reverse trigger for a camera? I'm about to install in my '06 Frontier. I bought a similar USB extender but it's dual and I plan on replacing one of the in-dash cigarette lighters. Hoping I can get to those easy enough. And not break any plastic tabs since it's not too warm here in Denver right now.

Gary Rice says:

This will NOT WORK for a 2004 or 1st Gen

Grant Pegram says:

I did everything the same as you yet I have some terrible whining noise coming from the alternator and from a ground loop when the engine is off. I'm not sure what workarounds there may be but I've tried lots.

Dave Ireland says:

My 2012 Xterra has Sirius XM and I would like to use this feature with the Sony. Is there a hookup i need for that?

KHILADI says:

Hello friend, greetings! Can you please let me know if this Sony system fits the 2011 Xterra? If it doesn't can you please suggest one? Many thanks

m Cave says:

Ry that radio is no longer available will this one fit the nissan xterra 2005 with the harness you got there ? https://www.crutchfield.com/p_158XAV1000/Sony-XAV-AX1000.html

Gary Anthony says:

How do you know what kind of harness to buy that connects to the car?

sewashburn0529 says:

I appreciate you making this video. It made changing out the radio so much easier since I knew what to expect.

cjmickens56 says:

I have 17 inch rims in my 2006

Moctezuma Cuauhtemoc says:

i have an 08 xterra S, i super appreciate you taking the time to do this and describe step by step what you did and what its purpose is, there are mega noobs like me that are not to keen on car/audio work- this helps to visualize big time! keep up the great work!

Brandi Jacobs says:

I just installed the newer model of this stereo in my 2008 X. Your video was INVALUABLE in helping me take the dash apart. Got mine from Crutchfield as well and they ROCK when it comes to giving you everything you will need. So THANK YOU!!!

Nicholas Folds says:

Nice video. I'm wondering if the usb extender you ran to the center console also charges your phone, and if not, are there ones that will do that?
