Nissan Altima: Rear Subframe Replacement

Nissan Altima: Rear Subframe Replacement

In this video I bring you along as I swap out the rear sub frame in this 2015 Nissan Altima. It was originally brought in with rotted and snapped rear lower control arms. Due to the overall condition of this vehicle it is a away better (not to mention cheaper) plan to swap out the whole rear sub frame with a southern unit. Bobby’s down in Alabama https://www.bobbysautoparts.com/ got us a really nice sub frame with everything we needed to give this junker a new lease on life.
-Enjoy!

South Main Auto Repair LLC says:

As stated in the first video I did contact our local Nissan dealer and they stated to me they only cover the control arms with the recall , no rotted anything else, no stuck fasteners, bushings etc. Their estimate with the "free repair" was still more than my total bill. I think the customer made the right choice going with the entire used rear suspension in my opinion. Let me know what you think down below. As always, thanks for watching!

Dead Eric says:

Had one of those a few months ago. Lady went through an extended warranty company. Checked every bolt before I wrote the quote. Luckily, they all spun. I wanna say it was 10-12 hrs just for both arms with alignment. Can't be that far off from what you did. Your guy got a heck of a deal. I got a mouth full of dirt taking off those plastic dirt collectors.

Kyle Cherry says:

Which air hammer is that? Did you not like big nasty?

Josh Alexander says:

So much rust. And it's also just and Altima. Literally not worth the work you're putting into it.

IAmMoparNut says:

Better to heat those exhaust flange nuts cherry, then use a twist socket to spin them off.

Joseph Fine says:

This was absolute mechanical engineering artistry, second only to the engine cradle you did awhile back. Amazingly calm & cool, you know exactly how, and when, everything goes back whence it came from!

Simon Jones says:

Man the salt has done a number on that frame

Donald Perrin says:

Wooo Alabama, Just went by Vance yesterday on the way to deliver in Mississippi. No way I would want to deal with all the rust up there, watching you handle this keeps me from taking that for granted!

mattmanyam says:

Super smooth segue to the comments, my guy!

(I wouldn't have it any other way!)

mleindek says:

Gosh I hate North East rust…. I hate it with a passion. Eric you're a true pro and have TONS of patience.

Pete N says:

Fantastic repair. This really has to be the best video I've seen on any channel so far. Worth the wait.

C.J. Jonker says:

Another awesome job and video!

Robert June says:

At about 24 minutes in, you talked about beating something straight. I glad you clarified that you were speaking of the vacuum plates and not the driver. Although I'm sure the idea about straightening up the driver crossed your mind.

Maurice Smulders says:

Good it didn't turn into a Flintstone car… I had a 2005 (one of the last M/T variants) which had rusted out floorpans — worst on the driver side…. And it turns out that Nissan had a Class Action which they managed to get thrown out… Only been in Utah and Colorado.

Gulliver says:

Eye protection is a suggestion!

John White says:

You are an awesome mechanic, Eric, with what you know how to get it done right.
God has Blessed you along with your wife, so you know.
Thanks for helping us all with your knowledge.

Dan R says:

Surprised the subframe was welded in.
