How to Replace a Water Pump on a 2001 Nissan Altima

This was a successful water pump replacement, but unfortunately the reason I am changing it is to cure a noisy engine (when cold), and I was not successful in curing that noise. As you will see, I did not follow proper diagnostic procedure in this situation.

I took my water pump out today… this car is a fuckin joke with all the brackets and different size bolts for no reason. Im dreading trying to put the water pump in. The bolt placements are terrible and space for nothing like he said.

Thanks 50sKid!! With the assistance of this, it was a breeze! I have a 2001 Altima with 260,000 miles. Did you have any issues with your Altima? How many miles did you get out of yours? Thanks again for the video!

How did you put that stupid alternator back on so easily? I cant get damn bolts in. What a piece of $#*t car! I've never come across another car where you have to take off so much including engine mount to get access to the water pump. Great video!!

Thanks for the video. But honestly you worked too much. I replaced mine a while ago and I only moved the alternator a little. It. Removed those big hoses next to it. Removed the antifreeze container to the side and belt and that's it. A lot easier and faster.

sounds kinda like a power steering pump

Truong Ho says:

thank you. I just did my power steering pump by watching your video many times the whole job took over 4 hours with my basic hand tools. I'm a proud own of my 1999 Nissan Altima that has 220,000 miles and still going strong. The car never had water pump replacement done before. I will be watching this video again and again watch out for tech tips. Thanks

Do you power-wash your engine bays? It seems pretty clean, compared to mine.

FixPraySing says:

How does the car even start without the alternator turning? I took off my 99 Altima serpentine belt to try to diagnose a possible pulley problem, but the car wouldn't start. My battery showed 12.5 volts. Maybe I need to jump my battery from another car?

oscar garcia says:

To remove the pulley without that strap tool, we can use a screw driver and lock it between two pulley fasteners. This allows us to apply opposite force when we try to loosen the fasteners. Look at the image below. I did it from the top.
