dubphat says:

Edmund Mendez says:

This is the best video I have seen for an ’04 Quest spark plug replacement. I am in debt to you sir. I have this exact same model and I am so glad you made this video. My van makes a kinda like thumping noise when I hit a speed bump, do you think I need to replace my front struts? I hope you could help me out.

Beau Boruff says:

first thing i would check is for a vacuum leak, any air leaking into the engines intake will cause the car to stall.

tebeda eshi says:

i am having a problem with my Nissan , after starting the car i won’t stay idle, i have to give it a gas for it to idle? any advise

Fayed Yasin says:

Excellent stuff thank you for posting that that actually helped a lot one thing we will recommend is taking off the windshield wiper and all that front by the computer once you take all that off your reach is a lot more acceptable you will save so much time in project becomes a lot easier

Dharmasena Sarange Don says:

My Nissan Quest is having misfire in No 3 cylinder. My mechanis changed the Spark plugs. No 3 cylinder plug seems to be got burnt. Mechanic says changing the plugs doesn’t give any result. I think my Mechanic is not qualified man. Pl let me know what should I do.

casey hubbard says:

Beau, I just watched your coil change out, excellent stuf!. I have a quest and CarMD sayes cylinder 4 is misfiring, which I believe is front center. changed it but same message, also there was a little oil in the area around the spark plug, small puddle. After car gets hot it runs very rough and check engine light starts flashing. What do you think? fuel injector? wrong cylynder identified? I also happen to smell some a little antifreez…..Hub father of four

Adrianicillin says:

Thanks for the video! I’ll be tackling the same job on my ’04 Quest.

Beau Boruff says:

hey deric, sounds like youve got a catalytic converter thats working hard.. that smell is the catalytic converter superheating the exhaust and burning all the bad fumes from your exhaust stream. not much you can do to change that except ensure you engine is tuned up and running as it should…. otherwise the unburned fuel is going to wear out the converters over time…

Deric Lanois says:

hey man awesom vid, i gotta 04 3.5 se when i rip on it sometimes it smells like rotten eggs in the cabin. Any help is good help:)

nicole canchola says:

Hello friend that I write to thank you for uploading videos and aprobechar important to ask a question:
I have a 2003 nissan frontier v6 does not serve the detonation sensor I want to change but I can not locate where I could say is that I have heard that this sensor under the intake manifold but I removed the distributor can not see anything so I ask guidance. now let me thank you for the infformacion you can ofreserme.

greetings.

Joey Mofet says:

Removing the cowl makes this job a lot easier. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

kevin francis says:

I’m having the same low gas mileage with my quest. Nissan told me my oil coolant line is kinked which i saw and i also have to change my bypass hose. The vehicle seem to get hit under because my oil pan is sinked in too, but not much of a deal. They told me to put factory plugs on it also. I changed the plugs not too long and i put the best plugs in ngk. I don’t think the plugs are the problem. I would like your suggestions on this.

Beau Boruff says:

you have a cylinder not firing probably that back cylinder.. best to scan it and see what cylinder is missing then move that coil scan it again and see if the missfire jumps to the new coil location.. good luck

light3572 says:

I went back under the hood and moved the middle coil in the back to the mid front now the van something is really wrong. The van has a loud squeal at start up, will sputter and stall out just sitting and I have to continually give it gas to try to move it. It stalls out as soon as I put it in gear. It feels like a fuel or power issue. It’s running really rough at idle. Any thoughts?

jimijames47 says:

Wanted to say thanks for putting up this video. Saved some bucks by changing out my bad coil pack & plugs. And yes it was freaking pain getting to those bolts in the back.

jimijames47 says:

Middle one in the back

mike oparah says:

I’ve got a cylinder 3 misfire. Where is cylinder 3 located?

jantemie says:

I also had an alignment done after I installed the struts in the lower control arm. do you think I should get new upper control arms for the rear is well. I keep throwing money at this van but seeing the same issues.

jantemie says:

One last thing Beau, I changed out my front struts and rear struts to KYB nitrogen ones and also changed the front lower control arms as the bushings were blown. Is it typical to have creaking noises after the new struts are installed. Do I have to change out the coil springs also. I kept existing hardware the only thing that looked a little worn was the rubber seat in between the strut and the bottom coil springs when I drive out of my driveway onto the street and also when drive off or brake.

jantemie says:

is it typically common for the check engine light to come on after installing new spark plugs? I also saw a video of preventative maintenance of the ECM computer posted by dial2fast. After watching it I did the preventative maintenance on it, it was really easy. Everyone that has a quest should check it out. It’s astonishing how Nissan can get away with so many defective issues without any recalls and putting the engine in where they did.

jantemie says:

Beau Thanks for this awesome video. I changed out the spark plugs on my 2007 Nissan Quest yesterday. I’m not a mechanic but I’m pretty handy as I’m in the construction field. You were right, it’s a bear but I got it on my first attempt. I will say it was frustrating though but I kept in mind that I saved about 400 dollars by doing it myself as opposed to the mechanic wanting 480 dollars including spark plugs. for some reason my check engine light came on after I finished up and started it up.

light3572 says:

One more thing, my check engine light have been on for months. I drove the van today on the highway running errands and the stall seems to have stopped and the check engine light went off.

light3572 says:

Just changed plugs on 2005 Q. The screws on back are very difficult to remove, Nissan should be ashamed. Points – The wires on back were in a metal bracket not plastic so a little “tug” on the fold and they came out. Done and now I have the same problem as James. At idle the van feels like it will stall. RPM’s seem low at 1M to 2M while driving 40-50. I will drive for a few days and see what happens before jumping back under the hood.

ChatsworthATVRentals says:

Thanks! It gave me the confidence to pull the intake manifold off my 3.5 Maxima.

zxturbo31 says:

Mickey Mouse
hahahahaha

Mikito915 says:

Awesome video, thank you! I have a suggestion though, I think it’s important to talk about the crush washers on the spark plugs. You can usually feel when they crush and then you hit the stop. Also just my advice but with the way you installed the spark plugs you can still cross thread them. I personally put them in a spark plug socket,( magnetic or rubber core,) with an extension and put them in straight as possible. Then I slowly turn clockwise by hand, works great.

rikihus says:

Tx, let me see what I can do abot that

Beau Boruff says:

sounds like the thermostat or coolant temp sensor is bad. if the car temperature sensors think its cold then the engines computer constantly pushes more fuel into the cylinders to try and warm it up as fast as possible.. as a result you are going to see bad fuel economy.. common problem and a cheap fix..how long does it take for the car to warm up? keep it up your on the right track..

rikihus says:

I found mobile mechanic on craigslist to do it for $125, poor guy done it today on 15* F outside in the alley, it took him 3 1/2 hours, I gave him 140 he was very happy does it for passion, it is 05 quest, 90 k miles, I ‘ve done it due to my 13 MPG aver city/hgw, done new transs oil, syntetic eng every 5k all the time new air filter, every 3k fuel inj cleaner but still low mpg, when I had 36k mil was making 18 mpg, now 13, I decided to do spark plugs and I do not know what else should I do besi

Beau Boruff says:

you shouldnt have to change the gaskets unless they are damaged, total time depends on your skill level… as with everything in life….. but id say its a saturday project maybe 4hrs 6 if your slow slow

rikihus says:

do we need to change those two gaskets if we do not see any cracks and what do u think how long does it take to do this

Ignacio Parra says:

Great fuckin video!

James Schell says:

Alright, so I changed my plugs, double checked that everything was tight including all bolts and hoses. Now when I accelerate at low rpm’s my engine sputters (misfire?). Once it gets to higher rpm, or steady rpm I don’t feel the sputter anymore. Didn’t have this problem before changing the plugs. Is it possible that one of the coil packs is on it’s way out but didn’t notice it until the new plugs were installed? Thanks.

MrJasonlyrics says:

Great video man. I did took apart the whole thing with no knowledge on my 04 Maxima but my mechanic helped me put it back together. Only thing with doing it yourself is you just have to have the tools, and something like the air tool with the spinning pads to get off the gasket seal with really delay you. Well now I have the basics so I could probably doing on my own.

Jose Olvera says:

The dealer charges $500 to change spark plugs on my 2005 Altima SE-R.
I decided to buy the plugs and do the job myself. It aproximately a 3-4 hr job depending how good you are with car and if you have all the right tools.
And sorry but no. Spark plugs for these engines are not too cheap. My NGKs were $70 for all 6.

Jill Gregor says:

Fantastic Video! I recently purchased an 07, and then had fuel pump changed cause the tank would be empty at 1/4 tank. Filled it up, then got check engine light; mechanic computer check showed low voltage — i.e. bad fuel level sensor. After fuel needle went down to 3/4 tank, the check engine light turned off. Any idea what’s going on?

Beau Boruff says:

Don’t be afraid its an easy job, just take it slow. Just part of the way they make cars these days. When you get pissed just think of all the cash your saving, thats what i do..
beau

ehurt152 says:

Great video! I am not looking forward to this job but have more confidence now! I will not be paying for someone else to do this for me!

Beau Boruff says:

julio i appreciate your thoughts but ive worked on lots of the nissan 3.5s and the point of ‘this” video is to help the DIY’er, not to scare anyone.
The 3.5 is a great motor but like many transverse designs its rather difficult to access the back cylinders, this is why the shop quotes are so expensive. Perhaps you could make a video and show some new way to change the nissan quest plugs within moments? thanks

Julio Chavez says:

It is not hard at all to replace spark plugs on a FWD VQ35 no matter what chasis it has been available in. just common sense. There’s plenty of space, do it once and you’ll see that this guy is just making harder than it actually is.
