The 2005-2014 Nissan Xterra recirculation flapper can get a little jammed up. Here’s how to fix it.
Also likely will work for Nissan Frontier.

This idiot showed the glove box removed already and we did not see how.
Well that didn't work
Blaise like I said the clothes paean, zip tie both didn’t work this time. So what I did is find The flapper door, give it a really good shove, and that’s all there was to it for me. I called my Nissan dealership and he quoted me $350 just to diagnose the problem, not to mention the several hours of work it would’ve taken to fix it, so I was probably looking to have in the range of four to $500 or maybe even more. Again thanks for your video it worked for me the first time but unfortunately it didn’t the second time. Have a nice day bud.
I actually did this about 2-3 years ago based off of this great video but the problem came back just this past week. I tried a clothes pin first and that didn’t work so well so I reverted back to a thick zip tie. And unlike my first experience when it took me over an hour to get the tie around yesterday it took me less than 5 minutes. Again thank you for the informative video.
The clothes pin worked sooooo much easier than the zip tie friends. All I had to do was make sure the little flapper door that comes down was up, make sure you have your circulation air button turned off, and easily attach a clothes pin.
This problem is now a problem again. Not only is the clicking noise coming on when I turn on my 2007 X-Terra, it’s coming on when I turn the floor heat on. I tried a pretty thin zip tie this morning that didn’t work, I saw in another video where you can use a clothes pin. Will let y’all know how it works.
Thanks, what an annoying noise.
I routed my zip tie a little different, but it still worked like a champ. I'd much rather fix the actuator, but being that Nissan made it such a PIA to do so, this will have to suffice.
Thanks for posting the fix.
What would be the actual way to fix it?
Wouldn't be better to unplug that motor driving that A/C circulation door?
Excellent !! Thank you
Also works on 05-12 pathfinders
I'm doing this to my Frontier, I work 50 hours a week on cars and have no desire to spend all day on my day off taking the whole dash out.
You saved my life! So stoked! Thank you so much
