If I don’t say in the video than I’m really not sure. It’s probably a size similar to the tension bolt.

Jim Hendrickson says:

Nick – what size is the locknut on the pulley? Long story why I need this prior to starting, but if you can let me know, I’ll appreciate it.

Nick Stageberg says:

Great, good luck!

George Grant says:

Nick Stageberg says:

It will probably be a little different, though some of it will be similar.

TheLavell1971 says:

Is changing the serpentine on a 07 maxima the as in the video

Ryan T says:

I just removed the belt and trying to replace the belt but I can not install the new belt on even after I detensioned the belt. It is not going in. I have a 1999 Nissan Altima. Do I need to loosen the alternator? I tried that and couldn’t get the nut to move.

Nick Stageberg says:

No, it is separate.

oceanhunter569 says:

???is the locking nut in the center of the pulley itself??

NikitaIM says:

How do you replace the tensioner? – thanks!

Nick Stageberg says:

If you visually inspect your belt assembly it should be easy to see what is broken/missing.

eusidmusic says:

I heard a belt go in my altima. The a/c and power steering went, and the car began to over heat. It seems like I lost my serpentine belt, and power steering belt??

Nick Stageberg says:

I would not suggest using a crescent wrench if you have already rounded it off. You want to use the closed end of a box wrench. If it still rounds off then you want to try a vice grips. Make sure to soak it thoroughly overnight in penetrating lubricant like pb blast.

Joy Key says:

I wish I would have found this video first, but I went at it from the top and managed to round off the nut on the idler pulley, I’m going to try it from underneath like you did with a new crescent wrench if that doesn’t work do you have any suggestions for how to get it off.

Nick Stageberg says:

Thanks!

snowbrd11 says:

Nick Stageberg says:

owtlaw1963 says:

Nick Stageberg says:

That is the power steering belt, I do not have a video for it sorry.

dabernathy15000 says:

I’ve got a 2000 Max. My belt looks just like this and you’re spot on with your directions. Thanks! What’s the name of the belt to the right of the serpentine? It’s the one closer to the motor…and do you have a video for that one? Thanks again for doing this video.

Nick Stageberg says:

Great!

Rob Baxter says:

Thank you for the video. It made the process very easy.

Working from the ground, I removed the tire instead of the splash guard, and it made access very simple. But knowing where all the tensioner bolts were was a real time saver.

Nick Stageberg says:

I’m not sure, but they will probably be similar.

Jayson Torres says:

Do these step work on a 06 Niss Altima 2.5? Thank you

Nick Stageberg says:

I demonstrate the necessary tools in the video, just a ratchet and wrench set should be all you need.

Melanie Almenas-Torres says:

Hey I need help to change my belt! I tried unscrewing the pulley but I couldn’t wat tools do I need

Nabeel eddin Khan Durrani says:

Hey I am with you ,lets meet up ali

Nick Stageberg says:

There is a second belt next to the accessory belt that connects to the power steering pump, if that belt is worn or damaged that could give you some steering problems. If any of the belts are worn or damaged they need to be replaced.

Nick Stageberg says:

I would not pay more than $100 labor for this repair.

ali87holla says:

Also im going to buy the part how much do u think labor will cost

ali87holla says:

Hi nick I wanted to know can that blet mess with my stiring wheel because I was driving and I heard like a weird noise and after that my wheel started acting funny but before all that it made a squeaky noise. I checked and my belt is torn .

Nick Stageberg says:

Thanks!

ameese02 says:

Excellent video, Very detailed and was able to change the belt in less time than I thought.

PAPI FLAN says:

HEY NICK I OWN A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA SE 6 CYNLINDER 3.5 ENGINE WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN YOU SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE THERES A HARD JUGG IT DONT ALWAYS DO IT BUT I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY IT DO THAT IT SHOULD TRANSCION SMOOTH ANY ADVICE BUDDY

jeff munoz says:

hey I had to replace my brothers water pump from a altima gxe 99 so in order to remove the belt you need to loosen the alternator, belts, safety bars…anyways to remove the belts you need to loosen the top lock nut and loosen the alternator just the top screw is good enough.

Remedy51 says:

Nick, although it was mentioned in the video, would it be possible to list the size sockets used for this procedure? I’m looking to start on it this weekend. Great video by the way!

fredericcato says:

Preciate this video! Saved me a lot of time!!

barraganraul70 says:

Thnx for the response Nick…I will get the belt a bit tighter and go from there…Appreciate your advice…

Chris Moreno says:

what holds the idler pulley in place? it’s kindve like a bracket, one on the outer side of the idler pulley and one on the inner side; this mechanic lost the inner bracket that holds the bearing in place… I can’t find a name for it, I appreciate any help!!! (1997 nissan pathfinder)

Nick Stageberg says:

Sounds like it may need to be a little tighter, or it may be the other belt that is squealing, your vehicle should have two.
