Just called a dealer to get a estimate on a fluid change in my 2010 Altima, $325! No filter to replace she said.(?) I can get the oil for $10 a quart downtown. This one is no brainer.

I have 76000 mile on a 07 nissan sentra with cvt tranny. I was hoping someone would post how to change the tranny fluid but by the looks of it, I think I will take it in to the dealer.

have you replaced the gasket on the plug by chance? Is it the same part as on the engine oil drain plug? Thank you.

Oh ok thanks for the tip, I just purchased a 2008 Nissan Altima with the 2.5, 4 cyl engine & CVT. I like to do my own work and was discouraged when they told me that they hook it up to a computer and it flushes the fluid. Do you know where I can see a guide on my specific car? Do you know how many quarts mine would require?

tdunaway13 says:

$20 per quart is the cost to buy the CVT fluid from the dealer.

tdunaway13 says:

Some dealers only drain and replace the fluid that’s in the transmission itself, neglecting the remaining fluid in the radiator and cooling lines. I suspect, if the dealer is quoting you $200, then that is the case. I suggest asking the dealer for a description of their standard procedure and ask how many qts of CVT fluid will be replaced by that procedure. If they say all 12 qts will be replaced for $200, then I would let them do it. (BTW, I got 12 qts for $120 off ebay)

speedshifter1981 says:

at your cost of fluid, why not just go to the dealer for $200? at $20 a quart you used 11 quarts totalling $220?

tdunaway13 says:

I’m not specifically familiar with the Sentra, but assuming it is similar to the Murano: You can do a regular drain/fill but it will only replace about half of the CVT fluid. At any one time, about half of the CVT fluid is in the CVT itself and half is in the lines and radiator between the cvt and the radiator. It won’t hurt anything to do it that way, it’s just not going to be as beneficial.

Ckai Doong says:

Is it okay to do a regular drain/fill with 6 qts on the Sentra CVT transmission?
