Do the flying disc have to be replace at the same time the clutch is change
?

AssimilatorX says:

Interesting to see such a monster transmission. Would want to see it in the
inside. LOL

Hi Mark, great video… I have question I hope you can shed some light on.
I just had my clutch rebuilt on 06 Xterra, and it does NOT take off like,
as you put, a rocket. What I am experiencing is high RPM in gear and a
slight rev between making a “whirl” sound I took it back to mechanic
immediately since it is a very expensive repair and he gave me the “this is
normal” response. I have road tested it now for close to 100mi and even
some off road. my additional concern is that getting to 80MPH was a
struggle and RPM’s are high at that speed, also post rebuild 4LO will not
fully engage. I would appreciate any insight you can offer. Thanks!

Brian Welsh says:

Update: 4LO would not engage because it was not plugged in. As for the
sound, through much research and discussion i believe it is the Throw-out
bearing. My mechanic is hesitant to believe it is the case as it would
require a complete break down again. He feels that it needs to “break-in”
I am humoring him for the moment, but what I have been observing is that
when it is cold the sound does not return until everything has warmed up.

Mark, thanks a lot. I have a 05 xterra v6 4.0 6 speed and it happens that
my wife ruin it too and now I have to replace the clutch. I have a
friend who told me that I need to replace the entire transmission but I do
not want to do that because I can not afford a new one and also I do not
want an use one. I think is better to go your route. But how about
the dual mass (loop) fly wheel. Where can I get it from? and also the
clutch kit where can I purchase it? is it @ one of the auto part stores
(Chucks, o’relly, Napa) or online? If online which one? Thanks for your
help.

Hey, Mark. First off, great video! I learned a lot. Thank you!

I have a question for you regarding my vehicle. I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra
S 4.0L 4×4 5 Speed Automatic. I just bought this Xterra used 5 weeks ago
(private party sale) with 97,000 miles and it has been maintained well by
it’s last 2 owners. Very minimal 4×4 use and maintenance has always been
done at the Nissan dealer with service records that came with the vehicle.
My Xterra runs smooth and drives great, shifts through gears smoothly and
at the correct RPM ranges, but I have a couple of small problems that I am
noticing.

PROBLEM: Clutch slipping Whenever I initially shift into Drive? (only in
Drive…not Reverse)

ie: Park to Drive, Neutral to Drive or Reverse to Drive.

There is a very slight delay for the transmission to engage when shifting
into Drive (about 1 – 1.5 seconds). What I do to prevent any weird jerking
is I come to a complete stop, shift into Drive while pressing firmly on the
Brake pedal and wait for about 2 seconds before letting off the Brake pedal
and beginning to accelerate or step on the Gas pedal. Whenever I do those
steps, I don’t experience any “slipping” of the clutch in the first 2-3
mph, but if I ever rush the process and go from Park/Reverse/Neutral to
Drive and I DON’T count to 2 before pressing on the Gas pedal, I’ll feel a
slight pause of power to the wheels and slight jerky motion as if the
transmission has just engaged. However, once I am in Drive, I can come to a
complete stop at stop lights and such, and while staying in Drive, I can
take off quickly and accelerate just fine.

QUESTION: Is this a beginning sign of a major transmission problem that I
should take action on now? What exactly could be causing this slight pause
in the transmission engagement when I shift into Drive?

EXTRA INFORMATION-I do not have any signs of leaks from the transmission.
No visible damage to the transmission and my vehicle appears to be topped
off on all of its fluids. Once I am in Drive, I have never experienced a
problem with the transmission even when shifting through all the gears and
cruising at 60mph+ on the freeway.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I SUBSCRIBED and LIKED
your video by the way. Thanks again.

thank you for good vdo.

Thank you for this great step by step tutorial. It will be very usefull to
our 4×4 club’s members here in France where lots of us have Nissan
Pathfinder and Navara D40 pick up (named Xterra and Frontier in your
country Isn’ it ? ). Most of them here have 2.5 Nissan diesel 174BHP
engines. However original 240 mm clutch disks did not like the torque of
this engine and many original clutches and flywheel had to be
replaced with few thousand miles on the clock. I did not catch the
manufacturer of the clutch Kit. Luk for the flywhell wasn’t it ?

How Many Hours Did It Take. Thanks

This is a great video… thanks for all the info

Steve Everett says:

There really is no need to take the console and shifter out from inside the
vehicle, the shifter can be unbolted from under the truck, either with a
small ratchet and shallow sockets, or gear wrench, saves time and doesn’t
disturb the customers interior.

David Roberts says:

If I didn’t have to do it myself I would bring it to you…Very nicely done
my man!!!
Thanks for putting this up as it will help me tremendously.

Good advice. Thank you…
