I’m guessing my ecu is bad cause my injectors are not firing according to a
noid light test i performed and my fuel injector fuse is good. I’m getting
a small spark, I’m getting fuel pressure, I got RPM, but my injectors are
not firing. This is for a 1999 nissan maxima. What do you think?

boredmder says:

Is the security light on with the key on or while cranking? If so, you have
a NATS (Nissan Anti Theft System) issue. Very common for the ’99s, it was
Nissan’s first year of doing chipped keys. NATS disables injector pulse.
You’ll need a locksmith with the appropriate knowledge/tools, or a trip to
the dealer to rectify a NATS issue.

boredmder says:

No, a bad KS won’t affect either cranking or starting.

SoLoPr0 says:

My car is cranking but not starting all of a sudden. The scanner has a
ghost code P0325. Will the knock sensor stop my car from cranking?

boredmder says:

@Rockyjedediah1984 12mm head, as mentioned in the video.

boredmder says:

Correct, a P0325/0304 KS code will not light the CEL. Pending means it
hasn’t been set yet (assuming it isn’t also showing up under active).
Pending means it’s still waiting on a determination whether or not the code
actually needs to be set, or if the fault condition has cleared.

Southern Prepper says:

Thanks for the instruction. My hand is too big; had to get a woman to reach
in there for me. The whole job took less than 15 minutes. I can’t get the
service engine light to go off even after unhooking the battery for a
couple of minutes.Any ideas?

jackchn23 says:

My 99 Max was a bitch to do! I did not have the clearance like you had in
the “valley” there was some kind of bell looking device attached by linkage
to the engine. You procedure made it look a lot easier than it was for a 99
model

Rockyjedediah1984 says:

What size was the bolt on the knock sensor

stashblk says:

On the 02 max why did you use a resistor , how many ohms is it and its
tollerance. Is it safe to use

boredmder says:

Yes, the i30s are mechanically identical to the Maximas.

boredmder says:

@prascon It’s intended to detect spark knock, the ECU uses the KS input to
modify the timing advance tables if detected.

boredmder says:

Have you tried clearing the codes manually? FWIW, the knock sensor code
will not light up the CEL, if it’s on then you have other codes stored.

bars0211 says:

What year is this car?

boredmder says:

On this vehicle I had already removed the entire vacuum gallery to make
working on it easier, but it should be doable with it still in place.

AMBASSSIDOR says:

How do you know when your knock sensor goes bad?

boredmder says:

Using a resistor is just easier than replacing the KS. It’s not as safe,
but if you’re running 93 octane you really shouldn’t have to worry about
spark knock. The FSM calls for 500-620 kΩ.

AgentStocks says:

so your saying the CEK isn’t triggered by the Knock Sensor? Even though it
was saying pending on the reader? I was informed by the tech at AAuto that
pending meant tripped.

boredmder says:

Most commonly you’ll have a stored P0325 (0304 flash code). It’s a ‘ghost
code’, in that it won’t light the CEL if it’s the only DTC present. There
are some driveability problems you may notice if your KS is bad, including
reduced fuel mileage.

prascon says:

what is a knock sensor for?

gocowboys808 says:

did you have to remove any engine parts prior to installing the knock
sensor?

boredmder says:

True, I forgot the ’99s had the swirl valves in the LIM. Those certainly
are a pain in the ass.

Emad Elramly says:

Is this the same process as for a INFINITI I30 1998?

boredmder says:

’95 model.
