I’m guessing you’re in NorCal by your username. I’m in east bay area and have a WD-73727 I just retired for a larger unit. It’s available for a great price if you’re interested. Search model number on CL to find me if you’re interested.

loveto livetruely says:

can you do this with a wd73732

carlosdjackal says:

Ps. This flickering crap started after my lamp popped very very loud as hell. So I’m thinking it was glass and small particles causing the issue. Also my DLP letting out a high pitched squeak that I couldn’t hear but my kids could.

carlosdjackal says:

People that are having issues with flickering (color wheel) this is a temporary fix. Get an air compressor or can and blowout all the vents. Also I took out the lamp and blew ever angle I could get to. Very carefully I must add. Actually I vacuumed everything first the I used the compressor to blow out the dust and dirt. It worked for me. I was ready to start opening my DLP and I tried this as a last effort. So vacuum everything on the sides, back and front. Then blowout everything carefully.

I have a WD-73727. When I removed the light engine, I found a metal piece; looks like copper and has a distinct 5-fingered comb-like shape, lying loose in the bottom of the cabinet on the side with the ballast. In your video, the piece appears to be briefly visible at 2:46 on the right side just below the cooling duct. However, I find no obvious attachment point. Would you please tell me what is the function of this piece? Where and how does it attach? Thanks!

Nicholas Schumacher says:

I have a WD-65C10 and recently replaced the lamp turned the tv on and the screen worked for about 5 minutes and then flickered while changing shapes of color. I turned the tv off and let it sit for an hour and turned it back on and did the same thing. Great screen for about 5 minutes the flickering screen. When the screen starts flickering there is a louder noise coming from the back which makes me think its a color wheel. I believe my tv has a different chassis. Is it much different than these?

Renida Smith says:

I have a Mitsubishi dlp tv model wd 60638. The color is going bad but u can see a picture on it. But the colors are pink, green. Can this be the color wheel?

johnlytle80 says:

norcal715,

I have the wd-73727, I followed every step on these videos and everything went well and i cleaned everything. When i went to power my TV on, the audio came on but the picture did not. The lamp light was now lit on the front of the TV and the TV shut itself off after about a minute. Before the cleaning the lamp light was not on, and the only issue it was experiencing was after an hour there would be flickering and then the color would change to green and purple. Any advice ?

valav0406 says:

I have this same problem! Just got a new lamp and its doing that. Did you get a remedy for this?

grullito0 says:

hi how are you the reason of my message is about it a question i have infocus dlp 61 md 10 i been have troble becouse i lost color saturation until the screen goes black i have sound but no image do you belive tha problem can be the color wheel also this happen after 15 min tha i turned on i dont ear any noise or wired only the problem is the color saturation (loss color) the light tunnel seen to be like duty from the inside . i hope dont disturbe whit this kind of question and tankhs

norcal715 says:

I think cleaning , tape, and the fan resistor mod will remedy it. I nave heard of a replacement optical sensor but I have found that if you polish the color wheel rotor and leave the black sensor in tact that it will remedy it, but that is in extreme cases and you take a great chance of damaging the color wheel in the process!

Douglas E. LeRiche says:

i have the 73727 model after an hour my picture loses color it doesn’t turn black and white but it seems as if a color is lost or idk i’m hoping your resistor trick will work as well as the cleaning of the housing color wheel and etc. if you have heard of this any suggestions???

Stan N says:

any ideas on a Mitsubishi WD-65731 color wheeel issue? does this casue a clicking when the tv power up?

sripvw says:

great video…i have a wd 60735 that just started to have rolling horizontal lines when using all inputs, cable, dvd and ps3. do you have any ideas as to a cause?

Sandra Mickey says:

Yes it actually is. I’m not to sure about misalignment. My husband took it out and reinstalled it but still same issue. The people we bought the lamp from asked if we have tried resetting the lamp timmer. But we couldn’t find anything about that in the book.

norcal715 says:

I do not believe that your model is prone to this type of failure. still could be a lamp issue. Is the picture brighter than before the old lamp failed? Could be lamp misalignment.

Sandra Mickey says:

I have a Mitsubishi Model #WD60638. The Lamp just burned out and my husband replaced it with a new one. Now after about 8-10 min. the screen will start flickering with lots of color saturation. Is this due to the lamp being bad, or is there now another issue with our TV?

swwilken says:

I have a WD-65833 which is starting to “flash” occasionally after it warms up, and sometimes reds look way oversaturated (comes and goes – normal sometimes, incorrect or flashing at other times). Is this cleaning still beneficial on 2007 models? THANKS!

CyberSamuraiJohnny says:

I took it apart again and found the problem, the dlp was missing some spaces between the heat sink that provide the pressure for the dlp. Although the screen is a little tilted I think I need to adjust the colors now. Other than that the tv is working again. Thanks for the reply.

norcal715 says:

on the lens i misaligned, all it affected was the overall centering and rotation. It still had a picture it just had a black band on either top or bottom or sides 4-6 inches but not a picture at all. I suspect something else is out there. . As far as alignment of the lens, once you get the video back you can pull the front, use paper as a screen, loosely assemble the lens and do a mechanical alignment till it is close and tighten it up hoping it does not move so much. Sorry

CyberSamuraiJohnny says:

I found an old pdf guide of how to repair this problem before I found your very detailed video. While cleaning the lens I removed the large lens you pointed at in 8:06 to clean it and now that I see your video that was a big mistake. The tv powers on, there’s audio and the lamp turns on but all I see is a dark lit screen with some strange blotches that look out of focus. I’m sure now that I probably misaligned the lens, you wouldn’t know how I would go about realigning it would you? Thanks.

norcal715 says:

No, I have it on my 73 mist and the pix is bright and clear with very high contrast. there is little light spillage, just enough to erode the plastic. Most of it gos into the light tunnel.

BigFatLoserDude says:

Does the reflective aluminum cause excessive light reflection that affects the image quality??

norcal715 says:

The newer models do not suffer from this problem! The color wheel cavity is entire made of pot metal and the lid is steel or aluminium. So you should never have to worry about this situation on this model.

captn3x says:

Just bought a wd-75c12. I obviusly don’t want to open it while its still under warranty but would you recommend “after 1 year” to open it and apply the aluminum tape or just let it alone until I have issues?

norcal715 says:

I have great luck with the el-cheepo paper towels, but thanks for the info bout the microfiber towels.

agthad01 says:

Awesome video again. I have a Mit WD-57732. I cleaned the light engine a couple of years ago because of blooming. It had what looked like oil residue (looked like a big finger print) around the iris. It’s been great ever since. I didn’t think to tape off the plastic though. Great idea.

FYI – paper towels contain wetting agents which can streak surfaces even when used with just water. I actully like lint free microfiber clothes. Just be sure to wash and dry them WITHOUT fabric softener.

Ehvan Tran says:

Thank you very much, I didn’t think this trick would work to resolve the “solarization” I was getting but it did. Received a quote from a technician charging $400. You saved me $400!!! Great video and thorough tutorial.

norcal715 says:

I assume you are talking about geometry setup since there is no convergence on these sets. Is the picture not geometrically straight(bent lines and tilted or rotated)?

William Baumgartner says:

outstanding what about doing a Convertion setup and correction on a Mitsubishi WD-73734
thanks WJB in NJ

jlaudiosrt says:

Hey thanks for the video! Now if you could help me with another issue. Where to find the flat 8pin ribbon cable that goes to the color wheel. I broke it. Damn! Lol

norcal715 says:

Ewaste, local tv shops, eBay, Craigslist. Of the models I listed the color wheels as far as I know are interchangeable.

vita johnson says:

DO YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND A COLOR WHEEL FOR A WD-73927?

norcal715 says:

The ballast will make a slight ticking sound when trying to light the lamp. just make sure the 2 pin power to the ballast has about 300-350 volts DC. also make sure the ballast control cable didnt get disconnected.

jonnyt9 says:

I did the cleaning myself and it seemed to go well, but when I put the TV back together the picture wouldn’t come on. It gives me a code 34. When I turn the TV on it whirs up for a few seconds and then whirs down and repeats 3 times and then turns off with a red lamp led. All the fans seem to be working an the balast seems to be working, is it possible that the bulb coincidentally blew without any signs of wearing?
Thanks.

weinbob says:

This is just fantastic – I was ready to push the tv set to the curb after talking to the local authorized repair center and mitsubishi. I saw this video and was going to do the cleaning myself less the addition of the resistors. I found a local TV (independent) repair guy and he charge me a reasonable hourly rate and knocked off the repair in under 2 hours – IT WORKS – thanks again for posting this video.

Dakota Smith says:

fixed my tv thank you xD

norcal715 says:

On these sets the fans have a rotation sensor so if a fan stops it will shut the tv down. there is no way to see if they are rotating at the correct rpm other than by looking at them.

1authentic1 says:

great video, thank you. is there any way to check if the fans are working properly?
