Thanks, the lines come out of the unit with a bending spring around them which makes it pretty hard to kink them.

TandNServices says:

Hey Mitch, if the line is in a lineset cover or a wall my torch will come out, and when it comes out so will the nitrogen. Of course some people say not to braze them because the flare is just fine, but I say why risk it. Flares have been know to crack!!!!!

remdremd says:

Hey Ralph, Great job! After you mounted the indoor unit, did you have to use a tube bender to bend the refrigerant lines down into the line hide or can they be bent by hand without them kinking?

MrMitch4you says:

The flared lines are used so that the home depot handyman can install these units. Brazing the lines is an obviously better long term connection to prevent the chance of future leaks at the connection. Never braze without the use of nitrogen though and throw Anyone off your property that is not using nitrogen during the brazing process because your system will be contaminated with oxidation. Oxidation = fail within any HVAC system. Keep in mind brazing may void some manufacture warranties so ma

steven lavimoniere says:

hey ralph nice looking job ….i would braze the line set also

@ 3:43….whoa there a birds nest on the back of his head lol

TandNServices says:

Hey Tyler I made a video response about this comment. In the video I include a letter stating that it is alright to braze the lineset. You may want to go look at it. It’s called Can I braze mini split linesets

Tyler Holland says:

Oh and also I wouldn’t put too much stock in the mitsubishi tech support guys. Most of them are just troubleshooting off a computer and many of them have no real world experience. I had a tech support guy tell me that every single circuit board in the system had been friend because a couple of the communicating wires had gotten swapped during the instillation process somehow. I found this very difficult to believe, so I just swapped them back to where they should be and the system fired right up

TandNServices says:

Tyler nothing sucks worse then walking up on a mini split and having it be out of freon because of a leaking flare joint!! I chose to braze my line’s because of the leaks I have found. It sucks to have cut sheetrock and find a leaking flare, or pull the lineset cover to repair a leak. We don’t live in a perfect world with perfect installers and mistakes happen so I chose to avoid that problem up front. Besides that every part inside the unit is brazed. So flare on my friend I’m going to braze.

Tyler Holland says:

Yes nitrogen does help to keep the system clean while brazing. I wont ever argue that point. I’m not sure who you’ve talked to from mitsubishi but everyone that I’ve ever spoken to about this particular subject has told me to NEVER braze a line on a mitsubishi mini split. and what was your reasoning for brazing? why not just flare and connect the lines properly?

TandNServices says:

Yes Tyler you did hear me say I soldered the lineset!!!! Going through both the M&P class and the City Multi class this subject was brought up. The answer was it is OK to solder the lineset as long as proper procedures are followed like using nitrogen!!!!! Besides that this video went around Mitsubishi tech support and the applications department and I never got one call saying I was wrong. So the only thing your right about in this case is the unit doesn’t have a filter dryer!!!!

Tyler Holland says:

Wow…did I really hear you say you solder those lines together? Mitsubishi does NOT want you doing that. The flare fittings are there so you don’t have to solder. These mini-splits don’t come with factory installed filter driers. The idea is that the system is kept so clean during the instillation process that you don’t need one.

TandNServices says:

I always use spray foam when ever I go through a wall. the air from outside will cause the unit to sweat and it will also make the unit run longer due to the temp differences.

TellMeHowI'mWrong? says:

Do you use a seal gasket or spray foam or something to close the gaps in that hole to the outside? It seems like that opening would allow moisture and unwanted air into the building envelope.

TandNServices says:

The line hide come separately. I would never think of installing a mini split without it.

Mrdute12 says:

Did that line hide come with the unit or was it bought seperstely

TandNServices says:

Hey Bob thanks so much for the kind words!!! I try hard to help anyone I can if I’m able. I hope I answered your questions. If not call me anytime

sonicrjt says:

Just wanna thank Ralph for sharing his expertise regarding this product. Very knowlegable and helpful advise on installation and on getting professional HVAC assitance when needed. Wish there were more guys like him around.

TandNServices says:

Hey Eagle, I always drill my hole first then I put my plate on the wall. But before I put the plate on the wall I measure the lip on the plate to where the lines come out of the unit. Every brand is different thats why I do it like that. I cant remember what the distance was but I would have to say its around 5″ to center of the hole, Its not one of those things I do remember because it such a small part of the job.

Eagle Mech Services says:

How far is the hole from the mounting plate.
