Cory Patton says:

thanks for the excellent walkthrough, mine is finally starting to loose convergence. these TV’s are pretty indestructible beyond that

T.C. Gore says:

If convergence problem, always check for solder crack on the convergence chip pins first. My Hitachi had severe bowing and #d effect. Found solder cracks on 14 of 16 pins on one chip. Resoldered, and BOOM, factory picture. Pins get stressed as set heats up and cools down.

code 12 means the computer can’t detect any issues.

Nice video. I just replaced the STK393 chip on my WS-65909. It’s a single chip that has 27pins. Convergence board removal is exactly the same process.

My Mitsubishi WS-65809 developed the error code 22 last week. Not wanting to pony up $500 to fix my 11 year old TV, I came across your videos when I googled Mitsubishi WS-65809 convergence repair. FANTASTIC step by step instruction! I am a total electronics novice with some mechanical ability. I ordered the repair kit for $80 from TVREPAIRKITS and bought about $50 in tools and practice parts. I opted for a desoldering gun at Radio Shack-$14 instead of the pump. IT WORKS!!!!!! MANY THANKS

betleano says:

Hi, My Mitsubishi 1080p DLP When I turned it on it has a big red x with two grey dots under the red x. What does that mean???? Thanks

Chris Simanek says:

Alright…great video, but I don’t think it’s my problem. I have the 55″ and have lost my picture. It powers on, but the screen is blank (black). The three lower “lights” power up , but the three colored lights don’t seem to kick on. I can hear the power kicking on , but again no pic. Any ideas?

1606fjz says:

please help, my 65 inch mitsu tv stopped turning on, picture is fine, started turning off on its own then progressed to shutting off more often, now it doesnt turn on, the green light flashes a few times and thats it, any suggestions

I have the Mitsubishi WS-55809 55 inch TV. The TV was working great but the picture started flicker off and on but the sound still plays. If I tap the top of the TV or boards heatsink the picture will come back on for a min or two then the picture will shut off again till tapped again. Any Suggestions you would have be great. Thank You

Great video and instructions; my tv (ws-55805) has the same symptoms and planning to replace the IC’s. One question how do you know when the high voltage is discharged? Or how do I discharge the high voltage? Just leave it unplugged for a day or so? I’m afraid to get shocked 🙂

Tks,
Leo

hey jay, ive got a mitsubishi similar to this one, was wondering if you could tell me how you diagnosed this problem and if this repair fixed it, i too have the code 22, but i dont want to yank the boards out and start soldering without being sure its the IC’s. if the IC’s are bad will i definitely have bad pico fuses? and whats the best way to test the picos?

thanks!

I have an old Mitsubishi VS-4541 and it shows stripes or black, or just streaks of color, but if you hit the side with a cane, it often clears up for the rest of the day and plays perfectly. Next day, same prob. What to do??

I bought a new Sharp 60″ LED 640. Oh my god what a difference. I changed all the setting and got rid of the soap opera effect and also figured out which mode for sports. Night and day. And the internet on my TV is amazing.

jodysamuel25 says:

if the tv is come on and the screen is not what is it

imjaybird says:

If you don’t do the repair your up to almost $500, a new 65″ is more than double that but, may be sharper. Your call, gamble $80 and a couple hours or throw it in the gutter. The way I look at it, if its already broke you can’t make it worse.

gerry3x says:

The convergence on the tv won’t fix it. I have no problem buying the kit to fix it, just don’t know if I could actually replace the chips. My tv guys said it would cost 380 labor for him to do it.

imjaybird says:

Sounds like the conv may just be out of wack? try going through the settings from the book or advanced one online. If that does not work your call to gamble $80 or buy a new tv…

gerry3x says:

I have a Diamond vision WS-55907 and it has a green shadow on the right edge and sometimes the left edges of white objects. Especially bad during shows that are video and not film like football. Does the convergence sound like the problem? I would hate to buy a new tv if I didn’t have to.

Alayye says:

The settings on my tv stop showing on the screen. The picture started to lose its color and eventually it would cut off. The tv wouldnt stay on at all. It would come on, but then turn right back off. My tv is a 65 inch Phillips. What do you think the problem could be? Could it be the lamp or something with the circuit? The tv doesnt come on at all anymore.

imjaybird says:

The first time my tv had this problem was in th first couple years and the service tech did the same. Glad I could help, thanks for watching!

Chad Kouse says:

And color correction it’s like a brand new set again.

Thanks for the great video!

Chad Kouse says:

Amazing when you find a video online of almost EXACTLY the thing you need to do. We took the board out of my dads tv today and just touched up the solder points on the convergence ic’s today – the 36 pins – suspecting a bad solder rather than a bad chip. The reason we suspected that was a medium strength tap along the bottom of the tv would fix the convergence problem temporarily. (up to several days in a row!)

Touching up the solder points seems to have fixed the issue and after a convergence

imjaybird says:

You can check the pico fuses with a meter, check the manual for the code and solution, i don’t have it in front of me now to know what 2-2 is

SierraThirteen says:

Great Video. It gave me the confidence to replace the IC chips. New problem now….After I replaced the IC chips, now I get the 2-2 code and it won’t power up. Before the replacement, the TV powered just fine but the convergence was screwed up. What did I screw up? Do I just need to replace the pico fuses or will they blow again?
