What I want to talk about today is mercury thermostats how they’re more energy-efficient and can allow you to save up to $200 a year on cooling or heating costs. New thermostats are safer for the planet and have less moving parts, which makes them more reliable.A perfect example of a common old thermostat is the Honeywell T 87, also the White Rodgers thermostat that is featured in this video. I want to talk about how you transfer your old wiring from a mercury thermostat to a new digital thermostat.
Some of the thermostats in this video include:
Honeywell T87
Honeywell Pro 3000
Honeywell Pro 4000
Honeywell Pro 8000
White Rodgers 1F89-211
Nest 3rd Generation Thermostat
You should always pay attention to your original wiring, how each color is on a separate terminal. This will help you out when connecting the wiring on the new thermostat. Sometimes you have to flip the switch on the back of the thermostats depending on which type of system you have. If you’re going from mercury to a modern age digital thermostat the process can be simple if you just watch what you’re doing to pay attention.

"Same exact thing. Not gonna repeat myself. Same exact thing."

So, the old mercury thermostat is better for the environment and can save me money? Why would I change it out?
nice informitio
uuhhhhhhh. lol
Hi David, I am planning to replace my old thermostat to digital, but I am confuse of the wiring. There is a line voltage (Off-High-Medium-Low) and low voltage (Numeric Dial) wiring that connects to my old thermostat. Need help please.
Buncha baloney!
"Safer for the environment?!" The mercury is inside glass and isn't going anywhere. Leaving it on the wall doesn't harm the environment one bit; taking it off the wall might, if you're clumsy or lazy.
"Dust on bi-metallic spring makes it less accurate"…so spray it down with electrical cleaner every decade or so!
"Uses more energy" HOW? Energy used is based on where you set your thermometer, not what you use to set it.
Those Honeywell mercury switch thermometers are nearly indestructible…100 year Mean Time Before Failure…I'll wager your "Nest" or similar electronic thermometer WON'T last nearly as long!
What a good down to earth how to video Thanks alot
Great job explaining this!
+David Jones how do I download copies of your paper cheat notes, like the one you are using on this video?
Thank you, your presentation was most helpful!
