Is that 2-4-C Grease? or what kind of grease do you use?
Awesome video. I just changed my impeller and services my lower unit and dolled you video step-by-step and it was a piece of cake. My motor wasn’t “peeing” as it should and determined that my impeller only had 1.5 splines left. Changed it and the gasket and now she’s “peeing” like a race horse. Thanks!
Very helpful video. I have to change the impeller on a 30hp Mariner and this video made me a whole lot more confident that I can do this myself. Thanks a bunch…..

D-Ray loved your description of the 40 hp pump impeller change. Can you give me advice on silencing the warning buzzer on a ’98 40HP Mariner 2 cycle. It is either the oil sensor or the water jacket heater sensor. Wiring looks good to both. Getting that little heat sensor is a real bear. I drained the oil out of the reservoir for the 2 cycle oil to check the oil level sensor. Thanks Mark in Seattle.
I wana thank you for investing in the best tool in that shop….THE CAMERA STAND!!! Lolll. Great job on holding the camera still! No earthquake taping here haa haa! Great vid too.
DRay i would also like to think you for the veido. you sure do a good job and real nice clean shop. Hats off to you. from Rector,ar.
Thank you for your time on making this. i have a 75. thankfully merc made them alike.
Man, what a HUGE help! THANK YOU!!!
I’ve got one that is a 1994. Seems like the shifting linkage is not located in the same place underneath the frame. Also, the bolts that hold the lower end on are of the opposite direction, requiring you to gradually pull the lower end down as you unscrew the bolts. Thank you very much for this video, by the way! A great afternoon for my father and I.
Thx for the video, my tail piece didn’t come off that easy though. Excellent video !
1995. I see a rod inside the tilt & trim piece, but no nutt. The trim tab has no bolt on bottom, but in top about inches down.
1995. The trim tab doesn’t have a bolt on the bottom, its on top under a plastic cap about 6 inches deep.
What year model is it?
DRay, I’ve got a Tracker Mercury 40 pro series with tilt & trim and stick steering. I can’t find that gear linkage you’re talking about. can you help?
Thank you sir! Sure beats spending $100 at the local marine shop to do it. Fixin to do my 97 Force 50. A vid on trouble shooting a miss at WOT with erratically moving tach during same time would be so helpful too:) Stator maybe??
I really appreciate the way you describe everything. Most people don’t want to share information like this. Thank you very much
Few people make an informative vid but you do. Thank you for taking time to making your great informative video. Tim Durham the honey bee man in walls,ms
Okay, I have a question. The water pump was pretty straight-forward and easy to do. I went to check the lubricant and unfortunately it was very milky. So when I went to get the impeller, I bought a seal kit for the lower end. I got the seals changed out and all looks pretty good. My problem is this. The bottom of my shifter rod isn’t attached to anything. I call pull it straight out. I noticed that it is threaded on the end but I cannot get it to thread into anything deep inside the lower unit.
Thanks DRay! I’ve done plenty of auto motor work but never saw the inside of an outboard. My 35HP Force and the pump was slightly different but your 2 videos helped give me a good look at what I could expect before I got in there. You covered every detail that one would encounter in performing this maintenance. As I started doing this job, I noticed the vent and fill points on the gearcase and wondered what they were for. You cleared that question up and even gave me the tip on what lube to use.
Did this today on a force 50 and I really appreciate the walk through!!!!
Hey, Nice vid.
Like the tips about grease ,postion of the cover and roating the shaft during re assembly. Never seen this mentioned in other similar vids. Cheers
Thanks a bunch-great informative video.
