My experience with heater core replacement on the Mercury Grand Marquis & Ford Crown Victoria

In this video I explain my experience with a heater core replacement task that I did using another YouTuber’s video. Here is the link to the best instructions I could find:

In this video I replaced the heater core in a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis. This process is pretty much the same for the Ford Crown Victoria.

Dude, if someone had never attempted something like this before this video would be great for them.

Todd Gilmore says:

with so many heater core brands out there.. which one after all this nightmarish work should I buy? I can't afford a factory expensive one but on Rock Auto they are anywhere between $20 and $80!! is aluminum good?

Teacher Lynn says:

Hey Robert hope you are doing well. I did the job on a Grand Marquis. The problem now is that I don’t have heat nor do I have any control of where the air comes out of. It only comes out of the vents now. Any ideas? Did I do something wrong doing the job? Most of the vents work but the one for control to switch off of vents does not.

MARIA S says:

Is a 2001 f150 heater core the same as a 2006 Crown vic heater core? They look the same 2 me I have a 2001 f150 parts truck in the back of my house and I have a 2006 Crown vic with a bad heater core and I don't have the money 2 buy a new one right now. Thank you in advance.

estevan cardenas says:

I took more. Then 3 bolts out it was more like 10 an it was an ass kicking me and my son in law butts

estevan cardenas says:

Robert diy is it the same for a 99 Lincoln Town car to remove heater core ?

VareaIII says:

Can I pay you to replace mine? Lol

Jess Duuuval says:

Hi Robert, What is the diameter of the heater core hoses? I need to buy a piece to bypass mine.

alhkjjd says:

… definition of STUD!…

Juanitho Estrada says:

I dont have the patience..lol..ig i'll just pay the $250 to get it done..

Teacher Lynn says:

I found after doing this job that my blend door actuator was bad so it is a good idea to replace it while you have it apart.
Also, my vent door is stuck so I only get air out of the vents. I checked it out and the door is stuck open and the components and vacuum are good. Does anyone have any ideas on how to free the door????

Corey Mullins says:

That's ridiculous amount of work for that… Good job tho

Memphis Messiah says:

Are you in Mn???

Crunk Navajo says:

Are you In Albuquerque ? i seen a CNM sticker on that car…. I have a 1995 Grand Marquis in need of attention

njkeith says:

I have a '97 CV with 197K on it, I've been lucky, no problems other than the Blendor door breaking which is typical. I don't think any cars built after the 80s are really easy with this. Good video.

joe sixpack says:

Damn… nice job.  You should be billing double since you got 'er done w/o any help!

tconside says:

yo get the top bolt out of the firewall, put the nut on the end of the bolt under the hood. use a socket and an extension and,
hit it with a hammer. it is held in place between the housing and the firewall with a thin metal retainer.

Patrick led says:

I got my car for like 500 so I think I won't go through this trouble sense it's already by passed
But if I ever have the drive I'll come here for some tips lol

ben napier says:

Word of advice. If you need to know how to open the hood. Pay someone to do the heater core

John Hull says:

My 92 crown Victoria…know how i changed leaky heater core…i didn't….two cans black pepper….one coarse….followed next day with one fine…not the best solution…but on my 140k beater…why spend time and money you don't have to…

Steve Zitney Murfreesboro, Tennessee says:

Outstanding job, Robert! Really appreciate your help! I’m very impressed with your patience, professionalism as well as your personable communication skills!

silverado708 says:

I had a 1994 crown Victoria a few years ago. best car I ever had I must add I live in Minnesota I took it into north Dakota once to race it I don't want to repeat it I came close of wrecking it down by the north and south Dakota boarder I wouldn't have survived the needle showed I was doing close to 120 mph. that was my last race I do want another

NorthernChev says:

It's a very sad commentary on Ford for making this so damned hard. They did a similar thing for the Taurus, but it sounds like this is even harder. Which is ridiculous as heater cores are an "eventual fail" item. They build them just well enough to get them through the new car warranty… After that, Ford doesn't care.
